Astronomical cell phone bills

I was just talking with a friend who mentioned their cell phone bill was something like $1200 for the month.

That is craaaaaaaazy!  Does anyone here have huge cell phone bills, or who calls other countries on their cells?

Last year I used the cell a few times to call from Borneo to The Netherlands. 85 euro's.

85 euros for a few minutes airtime?  That's like $110 US

Not much, around 35 to 40 euro.

And here I was thinking my cellphone bills were highs. {giggle}
I used to try to keep it to around $200 month, some months it went as high as $600,
but I always tried to keep it under $200. The biggest bite was the long distance on the cell,
and the international calling. Between USA & Canada isn't so bad, but calling any other country is brutal.

The past two months have been my biggest is awhile.  One was over $500 and last month was almost $400.  They are usually around $140 for 2000 minutes but I went way over cause I a working on something and it got out of hand.  When car phones first became available back in the mid-80's I had one installed in my car.  Back then there was only one provider which was LA Cellular.  The rate was a flat $.50 a minute.  The phone was I think around $300 plus installation.  I never had a bill under $500 and most were closer to $900 a month.  Plus I think you paid long distance.  I had a neon company then and called Hong Kong a lot.  Plus I was acting and was always on the phone.  It was a big status symbol back then to have the little antenna on the back window.

A while back i came across Russel Crows phone number through something I was doing at work....lets just say at that time he was spending quite a bit of time on the phone .

couple years ago I was visiting family in Rhode Island (I'm from San Diego) and I handed my cousin my cell to talk to my sister (also in San Diego) the converstion went on and on and on as I thought nothing about it.....

that conversation cost me about $ 125.00
