there was actually a thread on one of the VH sites a few days ago about how people thought he might actually be a bad ass and we just don't know it.  Ed said he'd hurt Valarie's new boyfriend if he ever "hurt her" and people actually were posting about how Ed might be a bad ass ::) ::)

the 2 incidents I know of that Ed got into it with anyone were back in 81 when Ed tried to clock Dave backstage after Dave had boned Alex's wife...Ed threw a punch, Dave ducked and Ed punched the wall, broke his hand, cancelled dates and I think they were even supposed to record for a live album and that got scratched.  Then Ed told dave backstage in 96 after the VMA debacle that dave "better be wearing a cup" if he ever talked to him that way again..

I read a story where the guy from autograph was writing a tapping book...Niel Monk who was VH's manager when autograph opened for VH told him that if he started tapping on stage he'd have his fingers broke....the guy confronted ed awhile later and Ed started crying...literally crying according to this guy and telling him it was a misunderstanding and wanted to "hug" and forget about it....

since we're talking ed and everyone knows-or should know-that I'm GB's #1 VH fan, I figured I'd throw this out there.  I was PMing a guy on another site talking VH and he said he's heard from some inside guys that ed's bi-polar, I think if you've followed him for the last 15 years or so it makes alot of sense, at least it does for me. 

anyway....anyone hear the Stern interview where Ed claimed to have cured cancer?

Heard it. He was clearly talkin shit. You read that classic Rolling Stone interview mid 90's where Ed talks about being bit by a dog as a kid. His dad gave him some Vodka to calm him down. He's pretty sure aside from a genetic gift from the peeps, that's where his taste for the "booze lift" came from.

yeah but realistically Ed's behavior was pretty consistant up until 95-96 then he flipped out, I'm not saying booze didn't have anything to do with it but his personality took a 180 degree shift and he's never come out of it....

Anyway my final thought on the man/myth/and in my opinion one of the last guitar legends is after following them from damn near coast to coast in the late 80's, suffering a bit early on during the Sammy yrs but finding a way to still stay with them is just dissapointment.
I  cant believe what they became. A fckn parody. Them 4 guys (Al, Mike, Dave, Ed) couldnt stomach each other enough to play ONE DAMN SONG for the R/R Hall of Fame gig???? Unbelievable.

Makes me wonder after all these yrs that maybe DLR isnt the dick/asshole Eddie & Al make him up to be.

rumor has it they're gonna announce a tour next week with dave, ed, al and wolf.  Ed was in rehab for the RRHOF and that was a good thing if you ever saw pics of him from about that time, they make the one posted above look good.  I agree with you that my perspective of ed and al has changed over the last few years as have my perspective of dave, it ain't all dave's fault like I used to think.  Oh well, I'll be seeing hagar and anthony in the fall 8)

Natural Al...you mentioned you were going to see Hagar this fall.  Where are you seeing him?  I'm going as well.  I'll be seeing him here in Milwaukee.  I bought the VIP ticket package where you get to stand in the "cantina".  Have you ever done that?  If so, do you get to meet Sammy?
Also, i did see that iloveallaccess.com has the VIP package up for the Van Halen tour that was announced today...no prices are mentioned yet.  i bet they'll be sky high.
