former masters O champ, he had a massive heart attack a couple years back and died.  Sad, but thats what happens when you stack bodybuilding drugs on top of a formerly poor lifestyle (drinking, eating, smoking).  Beat Vince Taylor, controversial decision, but beat him nonetheless.

seemed like a nice guy and family man, and waited years before making his bb dreams true.

what was his lifestyle like? was he overweight etc?

its sad that what is meant to be a healthy endeavour actually is the opposite for drug taking bodybuilders.

Don had diabetes & sleep apnea.  It was a complicated situation & he was alone at home when he died in his sleep.

Don was a nice guy.  He owned a trucking business in Alma, AR and worked out at a Gold's Gym in Fort Smith.  I would work out there in the morning after work and seen him there all the time.  I got to talk to him a few times and he was always nice and willing to give advice.  Without a doubt, he was the biggest guy I had ever seen in person at that time.  Looked like he was wearing some kind of shoulder pads under his shirts!  He was a head turner wherever he went.

I don't believe he started bodybuilding until his late 30's or so.  I think he hit the juice pretty hard and didn't exactly have the healthiest lifestyle in the years before and it eventually caught up to him.  He was pretty successful with his trucking business.  You could always tell when he was at the gym cuz you would see a new 'Vette or Hummer parked outside.  My wife's brother-in-law worked for him and was paid pretty well.  I was shocked and saddened when he died.  It sure was an eye opener about how unhealthy a bodybuilding lifestyle can be.

"I had a daughter, Christy, that died at age 11 with an aneurysm. It was quite sudden. She got a severe headache, lost consciousness, and never regained. That was, by far, the lowest point in my life. Working out helped me, gave me a release from that, helped me mentally."

nothing could be truer..but most people on hear cling to the belief that extreme drug use has nothing to do with premature health problems---
