i knew you'd say that pickle, why do you have to hate? Ali was a big guy, no reason to believe that he couldn't move weights that the strongest powerlifters in the world move who train like that all the time.

Sorry, I don't believe that story because there is NO possible way for someone to workout and still have your physique... I call Bullshit.

I heard he had a near miss at 705 as well, this was darn near 10 yrs before Arcidi did it...Cassius just didn't care for teh spectacle of lifting in front of crowds.  He preffered to let his fists do the talking.

One of my bros just got back from the States where he organised a rematch between Ali and Foreman. Not boxing, Ali's reflexes aren't what they were - no, they had a bench off. Ali benched 705lbs, but big George benched 897.54lbs. Unfortunatley my bro organised a press blackout so there will be no pics.

of course Casius Clay could do anything he wanted. I'm surprised he only benched 600lbs+. I thought he could have cracked the 700lbs+ RAW :)

that was before he started training with angelo dundee, he actually did 745lb raw.

angelo told him all the weight training would make him a bit slow so he backed off a bit on the poundages.

i was in Louisville working out with Ali's old trainer and doing some cage fighting and he told me Cassius aka Muhammad was benching 315-365 for 4 reps and curling 135 pound BB for reps.

Fixed. Must have been his sparring partner and got too many hits to the head. Maybe a little senile too?  ;D

Ali may have been tough, but I have had a few cage fights with tyson and believe me the brother is tough...if I wasn't squatting a grand raw (no belt or knee wraps) I may have had some trouble

A few years ago, one of the network sport shows had a contest that included weightlifting (among other challenges).  The athletes ranged from the top male gymnast to NFL and MLB players.  It also included Evander Holyfield, as he was heavyweight champion at that time.

For some reason, they gave Evander the nod to place very high in the weightlifting competition...but he came in last behind the gymnast!  Funny shit.
