I went with Vizio. Couple reasons: It was voted a best buy and in 3rd place on consumer reports. My new living room is big enough to watch the 50" and a 42" hitachi was 200$ more so I figured what the fuck and go 50". I didn't bother with a warranty. If it breaks it gives me a reason to upgrade.

I don't watch much tv to be honest just movies and mostly video games. An LCD was out of the question because of the viewing angles of my living room.

The customer reviews were also very good for it. The fucker is 4" deep!

You know, I've been checkin out that Vizio brand for awhile now.....it seems like a good up and comer.   I'm gonna be buyin a new set (maybe two) in the next couple months so I'd be interersted on how it performs.

Nice, I still have a rear projection and I am trying to justify buying a new tv, but it's only 4 years old. As much as I like the plasmas and they are more clear , I would still probably grab a 65 inch Mitsubishi rear projection cuz they are just so fkn cheap. But can't go wrong with a plasma.

Well with kinda of being forced to go HD anyway in a couple years I said fuck it and dropped the case. My current tube tv is only 2 years old but I'm just going to move that down into my man land in the basement.

Yeah, I have been reading about the change over in 2009. That is just for antenna based TV's. I honestly can't see buying another rear projection when there are LC's and Plasma's out there, but my friend bought a 65 inch rear projection(It's the type with the little mirrors or something) for like 2300$ and it's not quite as sharp as the other two types, but it's just so cheap. I will probably wait a year or so and get a Plasma, I just want to make sure it's bigger than my 53 inch sony, and since it's a 4:3, I am really sick of it.

This is the problem with the resolution debate.....720p vs 1080p.........plasma vs dlp vs lcd............samsung vs sony vs mits vs toshiba.   I believe 1440p resolution is slowly on the rise, but most networks still have yet to convert signals to 1080i (basically equivalent of 720p).   A 1080p set is great is you're a gamer with current systems (X360 or PS3) or if you own HD DVD; otherwise, the signals are gonna boost to 1080i/720p at best.   The reality of 1080p becoming the future upgrade of network broadcasting is probably 10 years out.  Really the difference in 720p and 1080p comes down to viewing distance....at ranges of 10ft or more the sets look identical....only a true videophile might notice differences.

I set up the TV. Comcast is setting up my HD box on Monday. I hooked up the xbox 360 and changed it from 480 to 1080i. It's so huge and loud that I literally almost threw up playing Crackdown. It's insanity. I played Guitar Hero II so loud that my wife had to yell to talk to me.

The rents just got one man. It's like a fucking drive in movie in teh living room. It's SICK! It's the one I'm eyeballing in the future for myself. It's not very big for a rear projection AND if you find a floor model, usually you can get a couple hundred off the top if you've got a hungry sales person.

hahahahah yes! We'll have to play I actually have RB6 Vegas but I've only played it 2 or 3 times. I couldn't get past a certain mission so it's been sitting there for a while. Great game, though.

I like Gears because it's cool as fuck taking someone's head off from across the map and them not having any idea where you are. Plus chainsawing locust scum is just awesome.
