Of all matured pro athletes....
« on: August 10, 2007, 06:58:01 AM »
From all "sports" I've seen  great champs  (any sports) specially "baseball" looking in really good shape after 50,60 etc years of age example Felipe alou he's 70 plus !! saw him last year in great shape.....

so my question is

Are pro bodybuilders the worst when it comes to aging gracefully??

Ironic when thats the activity that relies 100% in physical Appearance.

anyone have the life expectancy stats for NFL players?  I think they die a lot sooner - avg age 50s, if i recall correctly.  I might be wrong tho.

Alot of the retired NFL guys have knee/hip/shoulder/back surgeries and are a total mess.  Not just the really old ones either.  Some of these guys in their 40s can hardly get out of bed or get their clothes on. Congress is holding hearings regarding the NFL and their disability payouts.

It's no wonder the average life expectancy of an NFL player is 55 - about 22 years less than the average American.

"You don't see too many 80-, 90-year-old guys walking around that are 300 pounds," Morris said.

It's a difficult dilemma for many players: Is playing football worth putting that many risks on your health?

"If you can be thinner and skinnier in your life so you can be a $30,000-a-year criminal justice major, or you can stay where you are and make $300,000 in the NFL, how do you weigh that?" Monroe said.

I don't know but pro bodybuilders so called "genetically gifted" when they reach 50 + they look really Damaged and older compared to others retired pro...
Im not talking about mass monters over 300 pounds those are still under 50 years of age...
Im talking about 95% of bb over 50 years of age !!

look at Frank Zane, he's 64, but  he looks 80!!!  i know people his age that look way way better than him and he wasn't even a 200 pounds bb!!

Take a look at all the guys who were in pumping iron.  Most of them still look pretty decent for however old they are.

Is it legitimate to call pro bodybuilders pro "athletes"?  Are they really athletes?  They don't compete in an athletic competition.

ESPN had some articles the other day about people arguing as to whether golf was a sport or not.  People can make the argument that aynthing that is judged and doesnt involve head to head competition ....gymastics, diving, figure skating etc..  is not a sport
