Not that you could tell from any media source because they all seem to be aligned against Chavez, but this is not remotely close to the truth.  He's proposed ending term limits and wanted to have terms at 7 years and it looks like they're going with 6 years. He will be there indefinitely if the people want him there, if not then not...  But the original post of this thread pretty much sums up the propaganda reported in 99.9 percent of the media...

I think it's strange that you don't seem to react to the fact that Chavez wants to change the constitution in order to stay in power?

Numerous other laws have been passed to favor Chavez. No freedom of press, limited freedom of speech (you can be charged if you critisise the president). Does that seem like a democracy to you?

Not to mention his "Hola Presidente" show, and control of the big media outlets, feeding the public his propaganda.


Do I still support the nationalization of the natural resources? Of course! That has nothing to do with Chavez, and everything to do with the independence of a nation, having 100% control of its own resources, anything else is absurd.

But I'm not gonna support a wild man who is totalitarian, and a soon-to-be 100% dictator.

Hitler was marching though Europe in 1940 and FDR was reluctent to bring up the draft because elctions were coming up, he only did so because the Repubs thought it was a good idea as well. Nobody will dare give this serious thought. Nobody in power..because nobody cares...it a war over there.

That's actually not true, there are guys like Rangel who were talking draft and seriously, but I do not know of any republicans who have.  Maybe now as there's been quite the flip-flopping on quite a bit now that Bush has fallen so far.  The reason many dems have wanted the draft is simply because they believe the war continues on because no sacrifice is required.  The war would fall when people were forced to address it in seriousness.  Republicans led the agrument against the draft a few years back when guys like Rangel were putting forth the notion.  All to many people are for the war, as long as it's not their son fighting it... That's just freaking bullshit.  However, if sacrifice for America as the world police was indeed a worthy, true and a needed thing, America would step up and take the sacrifice, minus the traditional chickenhawks who get themselves put into the air national guard or other non-deployable situation.  The current situation allows us to be in a war that the vast majority doesn't truely believe is needed.  I happen to believe it's the biggest bullshit war of all time.

I don't think democracy is for everyone, clearly not going to work well in Iraq and Afghanistan a democracy?  Now thats a real hoot... No, take a country with primarily hard labor working class where they've been relegated primarily as sweat shop workers for X globalist corp.  They do not nor will not have democracy, they will have the ass end of the global corpatocracy forming while we have the better end if it can be called that.  Clearly under these environments a socialist system can work for the people much better and it's important to remember that Chavez has so far garnered majority approval from the people.  even with his proposed changes, ending term limits, that just means the people have an option to keep Chavez and the current direction of their country if that's what they want.  I see nothing wrong with that.  As far as the other elements, such as freedom of speech, I wonder if Chavez would do such a thing if a certain foreign superpower didn't spend so much time and energy subversively attempting to influence the internal politics of Venezuela.
