PAC 10 V. SEC
« on: August 16, 2007, 02:12:40 PM »
I know i sound like an PAC 10 homer but i really think the sec is over-rated. The argument for years has been usc is so good because they dont play anybody....The last times usc went south the outcomes were as followes
at ark 50-14 USC
vs ark 70-17 USC
At Aub 23-0  USC (Aub came in the season ranked 5 and usc was 8)
Vs Aub 24-17 USC

thats pretty dominate if you ask me

I think Cal will beat UT this year also.

top to bottom there isn't much comparison

the pac 10 is a two team league (USC and Cal)
the SEC is very deep with a couple of elite teams, several solid programs and of course some bottom dwellers. there aren't many weeks off in the SEC if you get tough cross over divisional games
Go Big Red!!!

The pac-10 has peaked.  late 90s, early 00s . . . Oregon, WSU and UW, even Oregon SU under Erickson had resurgences.  Then WSU lost its coach to Bama and strip clubs, recruits found out Bellotti was an asshole, and rick neuheisel got replaced by a "token" . . . wtf are you going to do?

year in and year out??? no. oregon had a decent run there for a few years and UCLA fields a solid team every once in a while, but i don't think those programs are on the same level as Tennessee, UGA, or Auburn.

Come on Mal, the Pac 10 vs the SEC. That is a no brainer. It ain't even close. SEC by a wide, wide margin.

The SEC is the pinnacle of college football. The PAC-10 is pretty much a joke in comparison, only having Cal and USC. The SEC has LSU, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia,Alabama and even Kentucky is turning thinks around. Look what Florida did last year to the "unbeatable" Ohio State Buckeyes. The first 5 teams I mentioned from the SEC are top 25 year in and year out. And watch out for Bama in the next few years, they are always a solid program, but with Nick Saban coming on board, things in the SEC are really going to get interesting now. USC's reign will be over within the next 3 years, that coaching staff is about to start cashing in on the pro ranks.

Okay, you are right and the rest of Americans who follow college football are wrong. I guess you forgot Cal got spanked last year by Tennessee. Since 1987, there has only been two occassions of a PAC-10 team winning a National Title. USC in 2003 and 2004. Whereas the SEC has won it in 92 with Alabama, 96 with Florida,98 with Tennessee(yeah, they really suck, huh),2003 LSU(Coaches Poll), and again in 2006 with Florida. Thats 4 different teams in the last 20 years from the SEC, and 1 team in the past 20 from the PAC-10. So yes, you are right, the PAC-10 is waaaaaaayyyyy better than the SEC  ::)

woah woah chill out cha cha....just a friendly debate bubba.....first off...im talking about recent wins. not shit since ninety fuckin two... chief

tenn right now is a shell of its former self they beat cal last year but i think cal was a bit overrated....bama (oh lord ::) )...since natron means debacle its been down the shitter i think they lost to hawaii a couple years ago 37-29

LSU is legit but they would be demolished by ucla let alone usc. And dont talk about that ohio state lost to florida shit either. They damn near lost to michigan who was destroyed by usc....

Well, its obvious we will agree to disagree. As you can tell, I'm an SEC fan all the way, and I would guess you are a PAC-10 fan. I hear this argument ALOT by PAC-10 guys that their teams get no respect and it all goes to the SEC. To tell you the truth, I think the reason the PAC-10 doesn't get alot of respect is simply when they play. They are on West Coast time, so any Eastern people or Sports Analysts on the east coast may not give them the same amount of viewing time that they would an east coast team. I live in Northern Cali, so it is not a problem for me to see the games. But my folks live in Tennessee(yes I am a UT fan) and they RARELY, carry those games and if they do they come on so late nobody watches them anyway. As for the Bama comment, trust me, that team will be back in the top 10 within a couple of years. They have so much history and pride, and now they finally have a coach. I know Tennesse has gone down alot the past 4-5 years, but you still gotta support your team.  :) Maybe we can settle this come bowl season, when hopefully we'll have some good SEC/PAC-10 meetups. Have a good one......

cool. I was jus drawing a debate...i know the sec is the powerhouse...But to me they arent head and shoulders above all just because of the bottom tier teams as stated above....I live in atlanta right now and my girl is a uga alum so i have fun with that...Here is my take...SEC football (with the exception of florida who runs the wierd offense) plays football in its purest form tome. Run the shit out of the ball and play good defense upfront. Which i like because i played linebacker in college. and the pac 10 is pass happy (except for sc and cal who are balanced) and runs the ball with much more zone blocking schemes (ala denver broncos) Defense in the pac 10 is heavy at the linebacker and safety positions which make the defenses much more exciting with sacks and picks. As with the sec you got 3 yards and a cloud of dust....

Alright! We do finally agree on something. I'll be at the Tennesse/Cal game in a couple of weeks, so I hope I don't have to revive this thread and eat my words. We spanked them last year, but they are returning alot of guys and we just lost our starting tailback due to NCAA infractions and all our recievers from last year. So I give the edge to Cal. If they do beat Tennessee, look for them to go a LONG way, maybe even an upset of USC, you never know. they are playing them at Berkely, so who knows. I might go to that game to, and show you some PAC-10 love! ;)

they went 7-6 last year playing in the PAC 10. let's not get carried away here saying they would demolish LSU. LSU has a sick defence that may be the top unit in the country. I think you're PAC 10 glasses are distorting your view.
