Bodybuilding was hugely popular when Steve Reeves portrayed Hercules in movies in 1959 and 1960. Bodybuilding died when everyone 'knew' they used drugs. Women's bodybuilding died when they started to look like blokes.
I think think Vince nailed it. When people realized that BB is mostly about drugs.
For me it was a shock to read about what bbs take, and the fascination of it is
gone.
