Let's see. Beckett's lost 3 of his last 5 starts, to such superstar teams as the Cleveland Indians and Baltimore Orioles. "Dice-K" has lost 3 of 4 to such impressive teams like the Tampa Bay D-Rays and Orioles. Schilling, the beast that he is, has lost of 2 of 3 since returning and 5 of his last 6 overall. But wait, the Yankees pitching is horrendous! I mean, it must surely be worse than the three superstar pitchers who are under .500 for the month.

 I have been saying not to count the yankees out all year. Never once saying they where "done" Stop with the flame baiting. Alot of those games that where lsot where due to lack of run support not poor pitching. Becket is 15 - 5 with a 3.15 era. Dice is 13 - 9 with a 3.70 era. Several of his first starts where lost in extremley low scoring games.

Because you are incorrect. The sox woes have come from lack of offense much more then lack of pitching. Those records do not fall soley on there pitching. There where games where both guys pitched gems and the offense let them down. If you watched you would know that. You make it seem like every game they lost they gone blown up. Beckets 3.17 era really reflects that theory

There are more foctors then just a win or loss when discussing pitching stats.

Not to mention he has a 4.25 ERA for the season, which is terrible for a starter that figures he should be at the top of the rotation. Matsuzaka gave up 6 earned runs in his last outing and even big, bad Beckett managed to give up 5 to the lowly Orioles two weeks ago. Their pitching isn't that good, plain and simple. That statistic is just buoyed by the good two months they had to start.

Talk about some of the other pitching performances Becket and Dice had other then the few bad ones mentioned. Beckets july era was 3.6  His Aug era is 1.50. he is 15 - 5 with a 3.15 era.

Schill is fresh of the dl. How bought them 12 and 18 runs the last two nights fury!!

I was looking at it, and all I saw was a good game here and there amidst a large number of terrible pitching performances. Dice-K's 9 losses are proof of that.

Matsusaka has had 2 runs a game scored for him in 12 of his last 16 starts.  He's had some great outings wasted.

On the flip side, it's also easy to look at ESPN's rankings and say the Yankees are 17th or 18th, but that doesn't tell the story of the team that's currently out there.  The Yankees sent out rookies in 42% of their games the first two months, as well as relievers who are no longer on the team.   If anyone thinks the sox starting rotation as currently constructed is far superior to the Yankees, they're only kidding themselves.

I don't generally watch the sox, although I occasionally tune in to see Matsusaka pitch.  I listen to EEI in the morning on the way to work to get the rundown.  If they're leaving tons on, the good thing is that they're getting tons on, and it should level out.  It can be frustating at times, especially against completely inferior teams, but that's baseball.

I can't think of anyone I know who liked the Drew signing, and that even includes the numbnuts on the radio.  Add Drew to the current crop of big name Bora$$ clients who are underperforming (Damon, Zito, and one other I can't think of right now).

As for Ortiz, I hope sox fans realize he's still having an incredible season, he's just not hitting tons of HRs.  His OBP is still way high, but the lack or HRS bring his SLG idown a bit.  He's still a top hitter though.   Manny, I can't explain.  We keep expecting this torrid streak from him, but he hasn't sustained one to the lengths that we're used to seeing.

Why don't they just stick Lowell in the 5th spot and run with it?
