peruse. Dictionary definition said 'read carefully' or the like, right? Well, where I come from, the word is used largely in the way I used it earlier in the thread.
The people who compile each new edition of the OED/Collins/Harpers and myriad other lexica, have yet to take account of that particular linguistic peculiarity. They will eventually, I trust. For it is the people's use of language that dictates dictionary definition, not the other way around.

While we're on the subject of words 'n' shit, I'm hearing this word 'gimmick' too often. A gimmick is a hollow addition to a marketing ploy or similar, a curiosity to pull in customers. How the fuck does that describe someone on a website hiding behind a moniker? I reckon the aforementioned dictionary guys oughta resist
that change.
