learn to grapple well just by watching the ufc
« on: August 31, 2007, 03:15:37 AM »
went out last night to the local with the lads, turned out one of the lads had ocd and could process information unbelieveably quick. we were saying word to him and he was saying them backwards without even thinking.  Anyways end of the night they are messing about fighting and hes choking the boys out and pulls kimura from no where on one of the lads. So i asked him jujitsu or judo? he says "nah, one of the other things my mind does is remember everything i see on tv so i remember every lock and transition in ufc without practising it."
I did judo for 3 years and sambo for one so he says he wouldnt mind trying to beat me
im 27 this guy is 19.
i clinch, reach for the leg lift him up try to twist him sideways on the slam to get side position, he blocks the turn with his leg and i land in his half guard and the bastard has me in a guillotine, im not tapping yet but its really stitched in, i reach my wrist in enough to breath little breaths and use my right arm to push his half guard away and take side pos.  still trying to choke me, i postion my right arm flat on the floor while i push his wrist off my head to go straight into kimura, he see's this coming so i quickly flip his resisting hand over to figure 4 arm lock and tap him out.

I was quite impressed i mean hes about 155 pounds 19 and only ever watched ufc and pride fights no training whatsoever. anyone else ever come across this?

Everybody that watching the Ultimate Fighter thinks there a grappling god also.  Maybe the kids talented but I guarantee his technique is off!  Most street fights are stand up only.  I definitely wouldn't want to take the fight to the ground if whoever I'm fighting has friends around.

I tried to think of something else, like Discovery: Science
but baseball is good choice for "easy" money.

This is kinda true. I tapped an orange or yellow belt my first day taking bjj. I beat another guy as well.

Unless you are in a kids program, there is no yellow or orange belt.  They are only for children.  Blue is the first belt for adults.

I swear I was in the adults program and the guy was wearing an orange colored belt. I've looked it up though and what you are saying is correct. It must have been something different they were doing at that particular school, but the head teacher comes from a legit bjj line.

Then this instructor must be McDojoing BJJ.  It is tough enough getting promoted.  It took my instructor 15 years to get his black belt from Relson.  I am only a two stripe blue, but that is the point of BJJ.  If you ask to get promoted, you just made your turn that much longer.  Functional ability on the mat is what produces promotions, not time spent, or money spent.

Nope. Wrong.
They train people for one of the biggest cage fighting pomotions in the country. Two I've met have gone on to the UFC.
They train hard too. The cardio/conditioning was brutal.
I think it's just a peculiarity of that school.
I don't know how long it took the guy to make "orange" but I do know I put him in a kimura and had him on his back with no exp.

Ahh, more trolling bullshit from the resident TUF moron realkarateblackbelt. I hope that McDojo Karate class you frequent keeps whispering sweet nothings in your ear about how great of fighters they have there.

Then again, almost every future MMA champion usually taps black belts their first time rolling so I think you're a little behind the curve.  ::)
