Anyone here familiar with linux???
« on: September 05, 2007, 04:34:52 AM »
Well first off I'm running kubuntu fiesty fawn...It all started when I was installing some new software via the konsole, and my computer shut down somehow...Yeah it sucked, well I typed in sudo apt-get -f install, to finish installing the software because I was getting some errors.  Well once I finished installing automatix 2 and tried to open it, a screeen popped up and said apt-get is being used by another program.  My package manager was closed, as was the konsole, any suggestions?

Why don't you do a 'ps | grep apt-get' and 'kill -9' the process id and see if that helps.

It might have been the update-manager running 'apt-get update' at the same time.

It's happened to me before so I just disabled it & I now run 'apt-get update' myself from the cmd line.

Hey, nice collection of acronyms there toxic...

Do you know what STFU means? ???

On the topic of the thread: the update services are transaction based, 2 update processes cannot co exist, keeping integrity in the system.

try "killall -TERM" to the update processes, then attempt a "sudo apt-get update" as suggested.

Well I just ended up restarting my computer, and I was reading over my sources.list and it got totally fucked up so I had to regenrate a new one.  Which happened to be a pain in the ass, but no azurues doesn't work now.  Sometimes linux pisses me off so bad...

I use Ubuntu myself, but have never used automatix.

I know the official Ubuntu team has some criticism towards automatix, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatix_(software)

Normally I just add the repos myself and use either apt-get of the GUI for apt-get. Less shit to go wrong then.
