Does anyone on here think supplements work?
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:51:26 PM »
Other than whey protein, does anyone on here actually think supplements work?  Gacik bullshit, etc.  In my teens, I probably spent over a grand in GNC and gained nothing.

What about creatine?

I assume you aren't talking about pro-hormones.

Beta-alanine starting to show promise:

i have a few national level competitors and NCAA athletes who purchase a decent amt of supps. Supps like superpump250 give an awesome preworkout kick. Whey protein essential IMO. I like waxymaize too. I see dudes juiced to the gills buying no2 and even creatine. Mostly preworkouts, fat burners and protiens. They all help

That is because you were shopping at GNC, they get their knowledge out of a magazine, ie: Musclecrap ads (so yes, Gakic is a derivitive of an amino acid, Glycene). In your teens, do you honestly think you were eating enough? Definition of a supplement = in addition to. Diet first, supps second and too many people get that backwards.

Can't generalize all supps as crap, what about anti-oxidants, multi-vits, EFA's, BCAA's, Creatine (pre w/o), and lately, TONS of studies on beta-alanines benifits for boosting carnosine. Can't go against proven studies, kido.

Supps and steroids are not even close to being the same thing. Unfortunatly, there is a thing called marketing that a lot of companies must do to sell to the GNC customers of the world who do not know any better. Read up and dont generalize.

Proven studies?  WTF?  Ok, who the hell cares if your carnosine levels go up. Show me a study showing supplements build muscle and cut fat (one not supported by the supplement company trying to sell it).  Bottom line is that you can spend hundreds of dollars on all that crap and not gain more than 1-2 pounds!

Oh, I care to increase carnosine levels because less lactic acid build up for me has resulted in more reps, which means more tissue breakdown so then the more I eat, more I grow. You can pull reports from the ISSN (International Society of Sports Nutrition) who does not sell their own line of products but rather a governing body of well educated in the field of sports nutrition who do unbiased studies.

Again, supplement means in addition to and not to replace any diet or training but if a product helps me train harder and recover faster, I am all for it. I do agree there is a lot of crap out there but you can not generalize all supplements, that is all I am saying. So, you eat enough EFA's and get enough vitamins from your food? Very good, most dont.

Yes, I understand supplements are to "supplement" your diet.  We are not retards here.  CLUE:  its also where they got the word supplements from, to "supplement" your program!  haha.
seriously though, its like having a car that goes 100MPH, and spending thousands to make it go 102.  worth it?  hell no.  buy an extra steak.

Never claimed you were a retard and neither am I. I have had good results from supps and you have not, so we will never agree. And the point I was making is that not all supps are crap.

Easy on the babyB crap. If your way of making your point is to sit behind a computer and bash people because of your lack of knowledge, then you are quite immature. Like to see you talk to me that way in person, child.

Relax guy, its harmless fun.

Sorry you got upset.

Nevertheless, dollar for dollar, you are much better off getting a grilled chicken sandwich or a steak over ANY supp.  You work in a GNC?

ok here's what i don't understand Carnosine is actually (beta-alanyl-L-histidine) and i can find carnosine in stores hell they even have it at wal-mart so why not take that do you really need to get just beta-alanine? why not just take carnosine? there was a beta-alanine thread recently and really not much was discussed in.....i suck at teh chemistry though so any research i try to do i don't really understand it is beta-alanine just a fancy buzz word being used to charge people big $ when they could just take carnosine thats what i think but i need somebody to second that :)

Carnosine is beta-alanine + l-histidine together. The two together make Carnosine. I am sure some companies just say Carnosine but it is the combo of both...
