So Gatorade/Powerade no good for post-workout any more?
« on: September 06, 2007, 10:36:15 PM »
So I was driving home the other day drinking a gatorade after my workout when I stopped for a second to notice that the ingredients have changed.  Now there is sucrose and high fructose corn syrup as the primary sugars that make up the drink instead of maltodextrin (which I think it used to be).  Has anybody else noticed this (sorry if someone posted this already).  I noticed its the same deal with Powerade as well.  So does that mean gatorade/powerade basically sucks balls now (as its basically like soda)?  Sorry if this sounds retarded.

I could be wrong, but it was always my understanding that the liquid is primarily sucrose or high fructose corn syrup based, but the powder you buy in the store is still primarily malto-dextrin. I don't remember the exact reason but maybe because of shelf life of the liquid.

I believe Gatorade has sucrose/glucose & Powerade (among others) has high fructose corn syrup (which should be avoided if possible).

Malto & Dextrose replenish muscle glycogen faster/better. That's why they're better post workout then the others.

I have been very please with both Vitargo and Waixy Maize. No gastric distress from either using up to 70-80 g. at a time. Similar in stucture but Vitargo is a lot, lot more expensive. Waixy is wayyyyy cheaper but is like flour texture and makes a mess, its only downfall.

I've had both & have been satisfied with each. I also agree that the waixy is a messy & doesn't always mix well.

I also like proteinfactory's HRS but it's about 10.99 a pound.
