What would you do if you were in my shoes?
« on: September 12, 2007, 10:40:22 AM »
I have been lifting for years and playing rugby for years so my body has taken some abuse. After the car crash I just got into (see General Discussion forum) my right shoulder is giving me problems. I can do everything but overhead press with heavy weight which make me feel like my shoulder want to pop out the back.

Here's my ?

I want to start my first cycle (Test, TBol, Deca) In the next 2wks or so...

think this injury is bad enough to hold me back from decent gains?

How long will I be down from this surgery?

Will I lose most of my gains?

My doc has me signed up for an MRI and says since I've dislocated them so many times it's unstable and requires surgery. Laproscopic or full C Cut isn't clear just yet. I plan to get the surgery in Dec so I have time to decide my choice.

As of now I am 6' tall, 244lbs @ 16%bf (season just started so I'll get leaner)

What would you do?

If yur going to do the surgery, I'd wait till I was well on my way toward total recovery from the surgery to throw any AAS into the mix.

After the body is well recovered from the shock of the surgery, AAS (& maybe HGH) could be of help.

Thats what worked best w/ my knee, and Overload seems to had fast gains waiting to cycle till after he
was well on way of recovery from surgery also.

AAS bounce Hormonal levels around, dont need that before surgery, or during recovery. Just my Opinion.

Patience?

Stay clean until you are fully recovered from surgery.

i was mid cycle last december when i tore my ACL in half playing indoor soccer. i started PCT right after i got the results from the MRI. i was clean for 4 months before i had surgery in April. i did physical therapy for almost 4 months before i got back on cycle.

i wouldn't run anything until after you are fully recovered and have been lifting 100% after surgery, which will be a while. doing a cycle now would be a waste of money. when you are 100% i would run a Test/Dbol cycle. Deca might mask your shoulder pain a bit and make you think it's ready for some heavy pressing, which could be a bad idea.

now i'm running a nice cycle(Test/Tren) and my knee is fantastic. i'm running, jumping and doing lots of footwork agility drills. my upper body is the strongest it has been ever. i still can't squat heavy but i'm still getting some leg growth from high rep front squats and lunges.

Hopefully Freakfest will see this thread...

i just had major shoulder surgery a year ago...well..11 months ago

im just now starting to think about going back to the darkside.

you will need a few months of recovery time alone......along with rehab....

then you will be able to train some...working around painful exercises using tiny amounts of weight

then....you will be able to train "normally" if everything is ok

THEn start thinking about juice if that is a route you wish to take

let me tell you...im no pussy and ive trained through some pretty good injuries....including 2 wrist surgeries. (ever try to bench press after a wrist surgey in a cast?)

and shoulder surgery is no joke....time and patience

What would you do?

My questions for you:

You say you can do everything except heavy military pressing?  This doesn't sound like the complaints of a recurrent glenohumeral dislocater.  Is that your only functional limitation, or do you dislocate with simple activities of daily living?  If it's only an issue for you with heavy military pressing, in which you feel like you may come out posteriorly, why not just do them lighter? or not at all?  Certainly you can develop cannonball delts all the same.  Also, if that truly is your only limitation, some well-directed, targeted rehab should take care of that one without surgery.

If you truly are a recurrent, unidirectional dislocater, you'll be able to start training ancillary muscles after about a 6 week period after surgery, and begin phasing in direct (delt) and indirect (pec, back) muscle groups over the 3-4 month period after surgery.  There is a not insignificant rate of redislocation after glenohumeral stabilization procedures, and their success relies upon patient compliance with all postop instructions.

My concern over you being on gear during rehab, at least during the firs 3-4 months, would be that you just would try to push the limits of recovery a little too much.  What a waste of a good cycle. Save it until you have fully recovered.  You'll get all of your gains back, trust me.  Having undergone 8 operations on my own body in a single day to eradicate cancer about 2 1/2 years ago, I can tell you I look better now than I have in the past 10 years.  Muscle memory (a some tasty gear :P) is an amazing thing.

Well shit that about sums it up doesn't it. I will wait.

BTW..yes the only time I feel pain is on military press..though no pain in delt movements, I have lost strenth. Last night while rolling over in bed I had it (right side) dislocate again out the back. It really sucked and I slept shitty all night.

Wait until after your surgery and subsequent rehab before starting a cycle.

You want to make sure the should is completely stable before you undertake any muscle strengthening program that includes AAS.

Any shoulder surgery is going to have you down for months, baby Samoan.

It's too bad you've abused that shoulder so much in your young life, but at this point, it is what it is.

You may want to consider using Deca during your shoulder rehab because it will help with the inflammation and subsequent scarring and will aid in the buildup of quality muscle in the shoulder capsule and surround areas.

Deca, but nothing else for rehab.

That's a great idea...but alone?

What would you suggest as a dosage? I'm 6', 248lbs @16%BF

PS - Why have I adopted the "baby samoan" name? Not that I take offense but just curious? I think we are under a year apart. I'm Dec 1977.

It's just my thing, bro.  I call everyone "baby" at some point.

If you use Deca during shoulder rehab, I'd suggest something along the lines of 200-400MG ew.

You will feel it helping the shoulder and it can only benefit you.

Good news, seen the sport injury specialist at the "Bone and Joint" Clinic and after MRI's and Xrays he says that he is fairly certain that this could be cured with some great physical therapy and strong anti inflams (nabumetone 500mg).

Says no contact sport playing but I can still lift, just no overhead movements.

He said it's a "symetrical posterior sublaxation". 6 weeks of physical Therapy and then re-evaluate. He gives it an 80-90% chance of working. Thing I liked most about him is that he is very against rushing into surgery.

I am hoping to do it "by the book" so as to be 100%. I am dying to start my cycle.

No point rushing to the knife. That nabumetone is a long acting anti-inflam. It gives me ZERO bad sides, and some
 relief from some joint issues.
