Should I diet down, before starting a real bulk cycle?

I've been reading about bulking, and I want to do it.  I want to put on 25 pounds over 6 months or so.  I've been reading the diets at bbing.com and I am learning a lot.

I'm currently 170 pounds at 5'9, in my early 20s.  About 12 to 15% bodyfat - 8 pack of abs shows, serratus shows, but I'm certainly not diced.

My question is - should I diet down 5 or 10 pounds of fat, THEN start the bulk?  I've read that I'll get more cuts which makes the bulk more effective.  Or, do I just start now, and try to avoid going over 20%?  For that matter, what is the highest % I should allow myself to hit, while on a bulk?  Thanks!

How much shit are you going to be on.  If you're not, all you're going to do is get fat and end up like dreamer.  If you're natural.  6 pounds in 6 months would be respectable.  Are you ever going to compete, if not, why ever bulk?

i'm natural.  I'd settle for 15 pounds.  I want to bulk up because i'm only 170 pounds and i'd like to add some muscle.

id say 20 of it will be fat....

and if youre 12-15% bodyfat and can see an 8 pack...its because youve painted in on with a sharpie...

not hatin' or picking on you, but my suggestion would be continue to try to "bulk", but do not rush it.

Why do you feel the need to bulk?  Try eating larger quantities of cleaner foods and train basic and heavy.

bulking for a natural that will never compete is a total waste of time..and I would argue that if you are competing chances are you are "hormonized"

you can make gains while staying lean..

thanks.  i just want to have a daily surplus of 500-1000 cal per day with clean foods.  not get fat like dreamer.

Unless your using do not bulk, if your abs and serratus are showing you would be 10% or lower.
If you bulk chances are when your finished and diet down you will be the same weight as when you started.170 pounds at 5,9 with abs showing is respectable be happy with that, youre in your early 20s you will put on weight naturally.
If you want to hit 200 or over visit the steroid page and learn about a simple stack.
Good Luck do not put on Fat.

all you have to do is take 300mg's of DNP everyday and pop dbol tabs. THis is the best for health

If you are in the 12-15% range you are bulked.  If you think a pro is over that in the offseason you're wrong.  They may look it, but it's more water weight from the High levels of Test. 

Do you plan on using drugs? If not you may want to try staying the same weight and tightening it up to about 7%.  If you are going to use drugs you may want to try diet down and deplete as much as possible in order to get your body to respond better to food, supplements, drugs etc.....

A big question is what body type you have.  This will determine how likely you are to put on body fat or not.
