What price are you willing to pay to ensure . . .
« on: September 16, 2007, 06:28:24 PM »
that the Suez canal stays open?
Before you answer, think about the volume of trade that goes through there . . . how do you think our navy reaches the Persian Gulf?  We have friendly relations w Egypt now, but it was not always so.

to be able to instantaneously nuke the shit out of uppity countries like Syria and Iran (among others in N. Africa and the Middle East)?

to have access to the best intelligence on developments in radical Islam in N. Africa and the Middle East?
All intelligence services have flaws, but some are better than others.

to support a people whose contributions to science and industry far outweigh (on a per capita basis) that of any other?

to be able to instantly launch strikes against any naval presence trying to mount a blockade in the Persian Gulf.

To answer you Navy suez canal deal......I served in the Navy as an EW tech. , and we have an east Pac and West Atl group....we don't need the suez to deploy to Europe!

We are covered 100% Navy wise worldwide.....trust me....suez has 0% impact on the U.S. Navy!

I never said anything about deploying to Europe.  And the suez has a huge impact on the U.S. Navy . . .

our ships don't mysteriously appear on the other side of Africa.

They could go around the Cape, but that would be a colossal waste of time and resources.

Do you now how our oil gets to us? Do you know what fuel costs and insurance premiums would be for supertankers going around the Cape?

if egyptians ever close the suez canal then prepare for 'operation egyptian freedom' and it would be a broad coalition. haha they wouldnt dare mess with the canal in any way. theres no soviets to get their back anymore
