UFC on HBO
« on: September 22, 2007, 01:18:13 AM »
I spoke briefly with HBO Prez Ross Greenberg at the Mayweather-Hatton Press Conference the other day and he said that the main issue in reaching a deal with the UFC is Dana White's insistence on using his own handpicked shills of Rogan and Co. for the announcing team. HBO wants to use their own broadcast team, because they believe there should be some level of objectivity involved.

Or maybe, just maybe, Ross doesn't want to hear the term 'Heavy Hands' ever again.

Twinkle toes is a jack-off and the last thing we need is some tired ass old boxing announcers trying to learn the moves of mma so they can broadcast properly.  Call Rogan what you want but he knows the who's who of fighters and can comment on any aspect of a fight.  I just can't stand the words "rocked" "evolved" and all of the other bullshit they say time and time again...learn some knew slang already!!!

"Rogan & Co." are better than anyone HBO can put on to announce UFC fights. HBO should just take it on the chin and let Dana have his way. Nobody wants to hear Larry Merchant trying to pontificate during an mma match.

LOL

Ain't that the truth.

Ed,

Do you think Greenberg might have a beef with Rogan for being so outspoken in his opinion that boxing is dying?

Just wanted to clarify I was just stating the Rogan is better then Twinkle. Rogan kills me with the same shit over and over, but better then anyone HBO has. Even though ol' drunk Larry Merchant might be comical for the first few fights.

No, it's more of a control/ego issue than anything else. Ross said that he wouldn't consider doing business with any other MMA company but the UFC because of HBO's premium brand status. It's just that he won't have Dana dictating who is going to represent HBO Sports on the air.

Personally, I like Bas Rutten as a commentator, but I think they should consider using some polished announcers. Who knows, maybe Bob Costas or Jim Lampley is a huge MMA fan and could do a great job. At least they understand that a microphone doesn't need to be yelled at.

Well you can't argue with that. No one in MMA would last 3 minutes with Mayweather or DeLaHoya in a boxing match.

When a 3rd rate crappy amateur like Marcus Davis is considered "one of the best boxers in MMA", that's pretty sad.
