Trans Fats - Be Careful!
« on: September 22, 2007, 03:57:54 AM »
Just read a good article on trans fats. New regulations make companies list on their nutrition labels the amount of trans fats contained per serving. However, you still have to be careful. If a serving size has less than 1/2 a gram per serving, companies can list trans fats as "0". This may seem O.K., but if you eat 2-3 servings (which most people do) the amount of trans fats that you ingest can add up. Do this with several different products over the course of the day and you are ingesting well above the recommended levels of trans fats (2 grams) given by the American Heart Association.

The key is to look at the ingredients on the label. If you see "partially hydrogenated oil" listed, there is trans fats in the product.

Be Well!
