They might as well keep him. He did well with the previous coach class and the coach before him did well with the guys left for him. After that first initial year or so..those guys recruited previously by the former coach either leave or do not fit into what the new coach has in place for how he wants to run the program. Usually results in your team sucking for about 2-3 years until his guys start filling in.
It's going to happen a lot now with the changes in coaching so often now.
ND's (as well as some other major colleges) demise will be the wide distribution of talent that used to proudly wait until their junior year to start for a major school is LONG GONE. Those guys can and will go to much smaller schools now. Add that will revolving door coaches trying to get in "their" athletes and you will see a significant increase in games like UM vs App state, auburn vs USF..etc.
