Royce Gracie likely to return as soon as he's eligible.. WTF??
« on: September 25, 2007, 06:37:50 PM »
Here is the story.. But what do you guys think about fighters like Royce, Shamrock, Tank, and the rest of these vetrans still fighting.. When is it time to hang up the gloves???

MMA legend Royce Gracie's return to competition could happen as soon as his suspension is over.

Gracie told Mandi Hargrave of the Orangeville Citzen that he will likely return in June or July of 2008. Gracie, a free agent, will determine which promotion he'll fight for when the expiration date of his suspension draws closer.

Gracie is currently serving a suspension that will keep him inactive until June 2008 for his positive steroid (Nandrolone) test during his June 2nd Dynamite!! USA bout, where he defeated Kazushi Sakuraba via decision. Gracie still officially holds the win because the California State Athletic Commission does not have a policy in place to overturn a win due to a positive drug test.

Gracie had the option to file an appeal but didn't exercise it, reasoning that it was not worth the time and money to appeal the suspension when he only fights once a year anyway.

Hmmm, who would be a good matchup? I would like to see him fight a "name", but who?

the sports evolved too much since royces heyday,at this point I think he can only taint his legacy by taking fights unless they somehow come up with a seniors division (of sorts)

He will destroy his reputation.. As if he didn't do that by fighting hughes in my opinion. What about him vs. Shamrock.. Ha-ha

Royce versus Frank would be a good fight (as in marquee ability, and ticket sales) , and the final nail in Royce's reputation.

Let me preface this by saying I am in no way endorsing Royce's MMA abilities, but how can you say that when the sports best fighters are well over 30 years old.  Couture is a perfect example.  Everyone will say ohh but Royce has only BJJ.  I think that is wrong, I think hes one of the best BJJ'ers out there, he just doesnt have "enough" of everything else to make him a well-rounded fighter.  Now that being said, I still dont think if Royce were to train MT, Wrestling, Boxing etc that he would be a great fighter.  I think that Royce took full advantage of his situation and abilities at the right time.

Royce has been training MT with Ganyao himself, although it isn't evident in his striking abilities.  He is still stiff and too upright without good footwork.  My good friend Kendall Goo is the head GJJ trainer at MMAlab, a Royce affiliate.  Royce needs to work his standup, wrestling, and clinch to be effective in today's game.

That's why it would be better if he fought Ken. Frank would kill Royce.

No he isn't.

Frank walks at 190, Ken at 225.  When Ken was seriously gearing up, he was closer to 240.  Frank is much better than Ken at this point of their careers.

He was 225 when he fought Ortiz 3 times?

Honestly neither of them are any good.  Frank is dirty as fuck and yes Ken is probably back up to 240
because hes getting a gut, but looks bigger in the arms.  Who knows, but Royce couldnt stand with either of them.  On the ground might be another story, but I doubt it.

Fight was at LHW, so he had to cut to 205.  This was the biggest thing Ken didn't like he wanted a catch weight somewhere in the middle.  Tito, like most wrestlers, is great at cutting, then carbing, fluiding back up 15 lbs come fight time.

Because Ken is a lazy piece of shit.  It showed in season 3 of your beloved TUF.  What a horrible coach he is.  Oh yeah I hate him.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I disagree, Frank has legit skills, unreal cardio (he was the one who showed Tito the importance of cardio), a helluva chin.  His weakness is takedown defense, and he is content to stay in guard, cross side.

I really dont think that Frank is that good anymore.  He does have retarded cardio, but cardio isnt the entire fight.

He pawned Baroni on his feet, punsihed him, he actually was extending the fight to punish Baroni, when he wanted to finish, he did.  He was countering Phils jabs with a sidestep uppercut, cut kick, left hook combo.  Did it on more than one occasion.
