When I went to buy it at midnight, I was terrified with the number of game geeks out patrolling the streets.  First I went to Gamecrazy, which has a line around the corner...maybe a 3 hour wait.  I laughed and thought, what a bunch of clowns.
With my "inferior decision making skills", I proceeded to Walmart, where I needed to pick up DV tapes anyways...to film myself more.  Once there, the line took all of 10 minutes.
Game is pretty solid, consider how well the online mode is implemented and this is where it shines above Gears.  Gears of War simply can't be compared to anything, that just wouldn't be fair to the other games.
After playing it for a few hours the other day, I experienced a mean coffee/video game hangover, and haven't touched it since. ;)

The price was dropped nationwide a few months ago.  The unit with the 20gb hard drive was dropped to $350 and the Core Unit was dropped to $280.

Other than graphics, GOW gets old fast.

I actually took my Gears of War copy to Gamespot 2 weeks ago and got $30 credit for pre-ordering Halo 3. Monster cheapness. :) Those of you comparing it to Halo 2, I hope you have a HD TV, it makes all the difference with this one.

San Andreas sold 8.5 million copies to date.  I don't see Halo 3 passing it.

to me gears of war had zero finesse to it..you just point the gun in the general direction and squeeze the trigger...

also I found the AI isn't as good has Halo3, my team members kept running into battles with out me, alerting the enemy to my position..thas was frustrating

I do like the fact that you can duck behind walls and objects..I got like 500 achievement points out of it though  :P

like i said, i could care less about the story mode.. the online play is why i bought the game...

the first two halos were great, and i guess based on that so is the 3rd one... but only cause its the exact same game...

yes i have a 47inch 1080p, gears is gorgeous and halo is just ok...

in halo all u do is float around, aim and shoot.... gears is a dance, active reload, cover...

I have a high definition 1080 plasma flat screen television and I found the game to be bland and boring.  It feels exactly like the previous halo games.

Bioshock looks better than GoW.  If you haven't tried Bioshock, buy or rent it.  It is probably one of the few games that I've spent 60 bucks on and been totally happy.
