Direct Visual Resistence

I've heard a lot about DVRs & how you can get a really good workout from creating tension in your own muscles & you can create your own tension by imagining that your lifting a heavy weight or pushing a mountain, also the idea is to put your mind into the muscle, does anyone know anything on this subject or people who practice it.?
