Unequally Yoked!
« on: October 06, 2007, 06:46:15 AM »
What exactly is God saying here?

Scenario:

I have a friend that is planning to marry a non-believer (JW) I advised him not to marry her but he is conflicted and thinks he can marry her and witness to her and she'll be come saved.

I say don't marry her until she becomes saved (equally yoked) but of course the pressure is on to marry.

Your thoughts!

Get a life. when you guys start bashing people it shows that you are clearly empty inside, you are missing something perhaps the holy spirit. As far as I am concerned what Hustle Man has written is obviously important to someone.

This is an interesting situation because if he marries her then I wonder if their bond is strong enough, difference in faith afterall is an extremely big clash in a marriage situation. On the other hand if he doesn't marry her then she may never be saved, but is that the purpose of him marrying her? I am going to have to think about this one before I give my opinion, but maybe Stella might be able to answere your question.

I agree.  He should witness to her before the marriage and see where that goes.  He should also have frank discussions about kids and what faith the kids will practice.

why can't she "witness" to him and maybe he'll come around to her way of seeing things (no holy spirit required)

if not - what's the big deal - as long as there have been people with different religious beliefs there have been people with different beliefs getting married.

If you love each other then it shoudn't matter

Why not have some humility and teach your kids that some people believe one thing and other people believe something else and that they should respect everyone's choice in the matter

I think if your friend is that convicted about what he believes then he may be placing unrealistic expectations on her.  She may be just as covicted about her beliefs regarding JW as that religion is just as wacked about righteousness and stupid as bible thumping Christians can be.

they both might think their religion has all the answers and the only to heaven is by each of there religions doctrines.

He'll end up being co-dependent about it and whine to you constantly.

Could cause major problems with raising kids etc...

I'm sure there's a God fearing woman who believes the bible word of word as the word of GOD out there.    how dare JW's even interpret outside of Christian doctrine......THEY ARE ALL GOING TO HELL!!!    BURN! BURN! BURN!

But on the bright side, she won't expect much in way of celebrating her birthday.  (could save him money over the long haul)

"Listen here, Bitch. You better get to know my imaginary friend and get to know him good, or we ain't getting hitched!"

I would advise that woman to dump that dim-witted mother fucker and find herself a man who takes her feelings, her dignity, and her intellect seriously.

What kind of dip shit says to a potential mate: "Do what I tell you, because I said so, because I said so, Bitch!!! or I'm dumping you..."

Marriage can be difficult enough between 2 people who don't really have faith in spiritual things.  But 2 w/such evidently strong and diff. beliefs are probably in for tons of rough times.  Could their marriage survive them?  Who knows...

I agree w/Beach....the guy should present the gospel and pray for her but shouldn't marry her since his faith seems very important to him.

Also agree w/Beach in that they need to thoroughly cover how the children (if any) are raised and taught and how they will handle birthdays, Christmas, ministry opportunities, worship, charitable giving, etc.

CB82 let me ask you this;

If you were involved in a similiar situation; with someone that recently became a believer in Christ Jesus would you dump her for wanting to practice her newly found faith or would you continue in the relationship hoping she would renounce Christianity?

How would you handle this situation? Serious reply requested please!

I wouldn't have any trouble at all with her believing in any religion. (However if she decided to stop putting out and become "chaste" that would probably end it.)

I wouldn't want to change her religion or anything. I would respect her adult right to choose which religion (if any) to believe in.

Fundies don't deserve to be treated with class. They should be treated with scorn, ridicule and laughter. CD82 has it right.

It isn't about fundies versus non-fundies. This man is being a pig and not treating the woman with respect.

Don't be harsh on Ozmo. He's one of those people who think that whenever there's a discussion between two viewpoints, he should always take the "moderate" position in the middle. So in the result he's neither here nor there and can't make up his mind.

I agree, the story of noah is far fetched,  but the details just may be exaggerations.

I'm just in the middle of this one.   Wise enough not to be too close minded to either side.  Except the "word for word" crew.   I believe in not part of that.

Had science been perfect and never wrong..... ::)

How is he treating her like a pig he wants to marry her! I suggested he not marry her!

BTW, Hustle, if your friend doesn't marry her he really doesn't love her.

He does really love her, he only disagrees with her faith. I think the difference of faith issue is just another huge obstacle to have to tackle in a marriage.

Anyway this question was for my brothers and sisters in Christ not anti-Christians.
