tell that to Ronnie Coleman and Jonnie Jackson.

In some of his video's, Ronnie does a few heavy squats and deads for sets of 2.  The majority of his lifting is done in sets of 10 or so, at least that's what he says.

Why would you not want to incorporate different routines and different rep schemes into your training?!!  ??? To not do so is to limit what limited ability you'd already have. Training without a brain and an open mind and not questioning things or trying out new things is one way to leave you behind while other people are blowing the fuck out.

Oh I forgot...we're just here to "stay fit"

Maxing out and doing sets of 1 or 2 is ego lifting, not a training "scheme".

so you're telling me that training in a lower rep range for POWER to help with your higher rep range work is pointless?!  ???

please enlighten me as to why!

Low reps range as in 6-8, fine.  Low as in 1-2, hell no.  Why you ask?  2 main reasons the first being RISK OF INJURY.  Second, I don't believe you can fully fatigue the muscle with a 1 or 2 rep set.

You claimed 5 to 6 reps with 315.  That's not alot of difference.  Were you bullshitting about the 5 to 6 reps?
lol...thanks for proving that your claims are bs

5-6 reps and 12 reps are worlds of difference...if you'd lift weights once in a while you'd realize that

there's always a risk of injury when working out so that excuse, even though still a valid one, sounds to me like a reason to accept mediocre lifts and not really push it hard in the gym...

and your'e right you normally don't gas with doubles or triples but, show me one perosn that only trains doing doubles or triples in their training anyway AND after a few sets of them, if you're not tired as hell from pushing some heavy shit, you're not working hard enough.

I'm starting to understand why more and more people now adays can't imagine how anyone can bench over 350,squat more than 405, or dead more than 405 wihtout the aid of some sort of lifting gear or some other sort of aid.

so back to the question i just asked..

I just don't see going that heavy to be worth the risk. I think sets of 6 is plenty heavy.  I use very strict form when I train, and I feel like Im comprimising my form when I go any heavier than that. In my last 8 years of serious training I've had 2 minor injuries, both times while using really heavy weight.  Once I hurt a shoulder military pressing 135 pound dumbells, and also hurt my chest on a 455 pound set of bench presses.  Both times i had to take it easy for a few weeks, but Im lucky that was all.  Since then, I dont use a weight I don't think I can get for 6 reps.

makes sense but you have a reason..you've had past injuries...that scenario is for you specifically since you are not the total populace. I feel like there is no reason what so ever to not incorporate low rep training into your training at all time. Since everyone is different and responds differently to certain types of training, to tell people NOT to do it for this or that reason seems abit.... just wrong to me. Its' like that bullshit about squats below parallel hurt your knees..which I used to believe. Squats below parallel dont' hurt my knees...SQUATS TO PARALLEL STOPPING ALL THAT FUCKING WEIGHT MIDWAY THROUGH THE MOTION HURTS THE FUCKING KNEES!! >:( haha.

for you not to do it it's understandable...

for you to tell everyone not to...is kinda near sighted and the people that follow that advice are morons to begin with.

Actually, I squat ass to the floor. Stopping at parallel also hurts my knees.  I just don't see why anyone but a powerlifter would use 1-2 or even 3-4 rep sets, but everyone has their own beliefs and those are just mine.

I'll give you an honest reply. I used to handle 315 for 8-10 every week. I occasionally would do 365 for 3-4 or a 405 for a single (couple times got 2), but one time was too much and on a set of 365 I was handling it really well but my pec tore anyway.

IMO, do dumbells first, incline & flat, then do your benches. 315 will seem very hard and you'll not need to test your ego.

Thanks!  I last thing I want is to tear a pec
