never lived in a ghetto, although some may consider all of Brooklyn to be a ghetto  

but seriously, some of those guys on my team were good players, had coaches since birth and turned out like Sevastase with his tennis career.

I took up the sport much later in life, could never really develop a strong 1 hand back hand so I switched to a 2 hand.

also since kids are bigger and strong you may have some 6'0" 14y/o kid throwing some real heat against some scrawny 12 y/o

My son plays on one travel team and one regular league team (in pony leagues), my son is 10 1/2 and I think until they get to at least high school, aluminum is fine, but college should absolutly go back to wood, over the last few years there have been too many serious injuries (mostly to pitchers) resulting from aluminum bats. I read somewhere that the comes off the bat almost twice as fast than that of wood.

I also have a petition that I presented to the heads of USSSA (travel ball) last season banning the use of junk balls by the pitchers. I got several letters from various orthopedic surgens including the Curland/Jobe clinics outlining the hazards of junk ball pitching from young players. Over the last couple of years, I helped rehab two 18 and 19 year old from Tommy John surgery because of throwing junk since they were about 10.
