In all fairness and all kidding aside these guys have to be super tough, there is no chance in hell any one of us would stand a flying chance against one of these fuckers.
This is accurate. Out of every 100 guys from the military police who apply for the BOPE, only 3 pass all the tests. Think about what this means: out of 100 tough guys, only 3 are tough enough to join it. Here is what those guys have to do in their training to get their black uniform with the skull in it:
- Withstand 5 days without sleep. If you fall asleep, you're out.
- Survive a whole night in near freezing water - several have died of hypothermia.
- Survive up to 1 month in the woods eating bugs and roots.
- Ride 100 kilometers on horseback and then withstand a whole day without being able to sit the next day - with your back fucked up and all.
- Climb a 1000 meters high mountain with no equipment and with a 50 lbs bag of rocks on your back.
- Be able to run 10 miles on bare feet over rocky soil in 1 hour.
- Walk 50 miles with a 50 lbs bag or rocks on your back.
- Get through a 3 minutes knife fight without getting a single cut to your body - if the intructor manages to cut you even slightly, you're out.
- Give 1000 shots in 1 hour to a target located 100 feet away - if you miss even one shot, you're out.
- Withstand 12 minutes of beating from 3 guys - the only way for them to stop beating you is for you to ask to quit - in which case you're out -, otherwise they will keep beating you until the 12 minutes are over or you're dead. 4 have died so far in this part because they refused to ask to quit. A guy I know sustained 3 broken ribs, a puntured lung, a bleeding eye(the capillaries of his cornea exploded) and a concussion and he spent the next 3 weeks in a hospital ICU, but he did get his black burette.
A military observer from the U.S Marine Corps deemed the training "inhumane" and said that such training in the U.S would result in a lawsuit. The BOPE is not like an American SWAT, in the sense that the SWAT is still a police force expected to uphold the law and trained to arrest the criminals, while the "BOPE" has a military mentality: their goal is to kill the enemy. Furthermore, the armament of the BOPE is much heavier than that of the SWAT, consisting of grenades, anti-air weapons, .50 machine guns, armored vehicles, bazookas and mortars. They are regarded as the best urban combat unit in the World. they are so good, in fact, that there are currently 3 military advisors from the BOPE teaching the U.S army how to do better urban warfare in Iraq.
