Should the Olympia rotate cities like before?
« on: October 17, 2007, 05:48:35 PM »
I remember the O when it used to be in a different city [or country] every year. That for some reason made it more fun to go and it seemed like the fans actually like that better. Just a few I can remember:

1992 - Helsinki (probably not a good spot anymore)
1993, 94, 95 - Atlanta??
1996 - Chicago
1997 - Long Beach, CA

I think they should rotate again. Might make it more interesting.

Discuss.

If the Olympia couldnt even afford to stay at the Mandalay Bay in Vegas, then I doubt they can afford to rotate cities.

Come on Wes, that's like asking for an act from God.

Lemme try:

God, if you're listening (or reading, whatever you prefer), can you PLEASE rotate the IFBB judges so guys like Dennis Wolf and Victor Martinez will stop getting screwed, fucked, shafted, over-looked?

I doubt he'll answer.

depends on the interest. for shows outside the us i doubt the interest is there, my impression from the other pro shows is that it's not crowded.

if mr olympia came to london, barcelona or paris i'd go.

As to rotating judges? I'm all for it....

As to moving the location..there is a good reason they decided to keep it in one location after moving it around...It's difficult for the promoter, put's you in a guessing situation as to what kind of response you'll get, etc....

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing it in NYC, Madison Sq. every other year or so...

Bob can you start to put together a  petition for the judges rotation and have all active members of the IFFB to signed?

It goes deeper than that...the entire judges selection, process, etc. needs to be revamped IMO...I would make it more friendly to get former athletes to become judges..problem is, it's a thankless job with little to no benefits, long hours for little compensation....

There's not exactly a long list of candidates chomping at the bit to become judges....

They did rotate judges to a small degree at the Olympia, round by round..

YES !!! DO IT IN NYC !!!

it would be awesome and just 5-6 hours from here  8)

hey Bob don't you think there should be only 1 judge per country instead of a lot of people from the USA ?
I think it would help as far as the favoritism goes

Vegas usually has the cheapest flights and so many other things to do and see. i've been to Ohio for the Arnold a few times and it is a boring city, expensive flights and no where near as convenient to get around.

i'll go to every contest that is in Vegas.

I totally agree Bob. As a promoter, I would love to have some ex-champs come over to judge. It would be great for the fans and have a lot of cred with the competitors. I have spoken to plenty of pros about it but no one has wanted to step up.
