How come whenever I'm on a university campus (usually after hours), I invariably see bunches of you practicing dances in various hallways?

is this a genetic thing that has also given rise to bollywood movies?

Never seen that myself but I have seen indians blocking my way going in and out of the engineering buildings sometimes (when there's huge indian functions here)

I don't understand why they do this, when there's other more open places to be doing this.

cleveland maybe boring but its given a lot to my poor self

Lots of indians here though, i've seriously never heard of indians dancing in university hallways

Are they in lines of 5 or six dancing sideways and saying something in hindi? $:-\$ Or the worst, but most acceptable is some love sick couple dancing bollywood style... Although it is epic comedy when it's a white guy with a hot indian chick, to me anyways, but others seem to hate it.

We bengalis, although a subgroup of Indians, sing aloud to ourselves rather then dance like fools. There was some thing in our college sponsored by FUZE beverages and I got my sample of diet green tea and had to avoid several desi chicks, hell even guys; who for some reason were completely oblivious to the fact that they looked silly waving their arms on a grass field where a festival was taking place, and where there were other cultures present.

My mom watches it and I overhear and stuff.

Can't help but like 1% of the songs.

Thing is that I am so detached from the culture, I have a hard time fitting in. I am better off with just generic americans, I think, unless I run into unique people like you.

no, they're practicing for something . . . probably a cultural show or some crap like that. I've seen this at two different campuses.

I'm somewhere in between, grew up around paki's but switched over to american culture at 13- didn't have any interaction with desis at my highschool at all. A good thing in some ways. I noticed that, socially, I fit in better with americans than my older brother who had lots of interaction with other desis and arabs at uni. Whats keeping me from really assimilating is american sports, which have failed to capture my interest even after all these years

I visited home after 6 years thsi past summer, and didn't really notice any improvement in indian movies. I must admit that was a huge disappointment, I used to love watching indian movies when I was a kid (proably because I had better grasp of hindi than english).

i've seen that also..look man its just a bunch of insecure folks finding comfort and using such sub culture as a security blanket..

you'll see more n more of this as the " we shouldbe accepting of everything from everybody" movement continues..unfortunately ..

personally..i dont wanna see that shit..i left asia and flew half way across the world to get away from it..

Domian loyalty is stupid.. Prevents integration. All these assholes and not just pakis and indians do it. Not saying you shouldn't be semi-proud of where you come from, but there are limits. Being outraged over western girls' skirt sizes is not a means of expressing the virtues of your culture; and blabbering in hindi to those horrible bollywood movies ain't either.

It's all insecurity and subculture like you said.
