UFC 77
« on: October 22, 2007, 06:25:34 AM »
I saw UFC 77 this weekend and I was not all that impressed with the training methods of either Rich Franklin or Tim Silvia.  Don't get me wrong, they would kick my ass in a second, but their entire training is centered around endurance (even when they weight train).  I saw both Rich and Tim working out with 95lbs on the Bench Press (superfast reps).  It also seemed that they didn't seem to be extremely powerful when they were in a clinch.  Would it not make more sense to train with heavy ass weights to build power and they work on their cardio in seperate workouts.  Maybe if Tim would have been stronger he would not have gotten handled by Randy.

No...but it just seems that if these guys trained for more power it would benefit them

endurance and conditioning are way more important in a fight than being "strong" IMO.

I think you are right, but why not train to be both?  WTF is doin 95lb bench presses going to do.  I bet Randy works out with heavier weights than this.  This is may be why he was able to control Tim very easily.
