reason bodybuilding cant go mainstream sport is because it is a sport where drugs needed inorder to achieve something,,unlike other sports where the use of drugs is less needed although there,,bodybuilding is a sport where drug use is a must inorder to get to a satisfying level

you can be strong drugless,,you can lift lots of weight drugless,,but you will never grow your muscle diameter and make your condition noticable drugless!

and that my friends is why bodybuilding will never go mainstream,,you cant go mainstram when your sport is 90% drugs and 10% talent,,and yes it was exactly this way in the 70s..

I disagree, gh15. I believe it is possible to get big without any drugs or supplements. Trouble is no one else believes this. Thus, everyone believes the nonsense about drugs being necessary.

see i was training yesterday in some no where to be found gym and there was this fella in the gym looking kind of like you in the little avatar,,now thisd person was strong as a bull,,he had 5 plates each side of the bar going down parallel if not lower for good 6 reps with no spotter!,,looked like pieace of cake for him,,but! fella had stick legs,,,he looked clean to me ,,even natural ,,but the muscle blow and over all low bodyfat% and muscle shape and condition were not there so he was one hell of a strong fella but the moment he go out of the gym no onw know about it! and that is the diff between bodybuilder and this fella,,bodybuilder will be noticable and lots of it is due to the use of hormones,,it takes a specific chemicals to change your body composition and remain sized

That many have trouble gaining muscle size does not mean it cannot be done naturally. I know it is possible. It is interesting that you gave an example of a guy doing heavy squats yet not being that big. The truth is squats don't always build huge thighs. If you don't get big doing squats you have to try another exercise.

Gh15 embraces the attitude that many advanced bodybuilders believe. The trouble is believing something doesn't make it true. I will accept that hormones might be required for most females to gain large muscles all over. There still might be some women who can naturally get large muscles.
