NO.  You can't:

yell fire in a crowded room with the intent of causing panic and injury

OR

say you're gonna kill the president. Even if you're joking...

Correct.

His freedom of speech to bash the president and the government is protected.  He cannot be prosecuted for talking about what a shyster this president is, but he's not allowed to say he's going to kill the guy.

Is this an actual law?  Can you provide a link to this bad boy, because if that is the case, you would have too many loony bins online and through the media being sued right at this moment...

EDIT:  I found it, oddly enough, I still think it's a little absurd...

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 41 > § 871

§ 871. Threats against President and successors to the Presidency

(a) Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both.

why do you think it's absurd?  Even if someone makes doesn't really MEAN it, other people will see the threat and think its ok.  Before you know it, all kinds of people are threatening the president and then IT IS really hard to find out who is joking and who is serious...

Similar to zero tolerance policies and parents that don't take any shit from there kids....if you are as strict as possible it keeps things simple and helps to minimize the danger...

Very true. If anything I hope they slap him around for being an idiot and scare his dumbass so much he'll never have another violent thought in his life.

Quite frankly it's easier said than done.  That kid along with any stupid individual that would place himself in that predicament, wouldn't have the means of even getting close to the president.  Plus, he can easily claim that he was saying it figuratively and that instead of wanting to inflict any type of real harm, he was more leaning on trying to change state of the union.  Again, just a thought...

No one disagrees that the kid who posted that is a moron... the point is, we can't seem to catch bin laden, but damn sure we're gonna waste federal resources on going after loud-mouth high school brats on the internet.  ::)

the usa goverment know exactly where binladen is,,its just a matter of time for that arab maniac,,see with bin laden you need to get to him face to face,,bomibg wont do it because he live in a fuckin cave,,in very hard terrain and change caves and many people protect him,,,getting to bin laden will cost life to us and bush cant afford it right now because of iraq,,he could ask the mossad from the state of israel to do it for usa like what the israel mossad did  to syrya number of weeks back,,they didnt know where it came from and it was done,,but bush doesnt want the mossad to do it because he is afraid it will bring israel into the story and mess things with pakistan,,etc etc  complex politics at its best

never the less bin laden is cooked he is dead man walking both usa and israel will get him after the finish with iran,,matter if time

Reread my post entirely.  It's not that anybody really believes this kid was serious.  It's about letting everybody know just how serious the gov't takes EVERY threat.  Do you think this kid or anyone on this board is gonna fuck around again?

I don't need to reread your entire post.  You only asked one question in response to my statement, which is why I then replied with an answer.

FYI UBLs Price has went from the previous 25 MILLION to 50 MILLION (FBI needs to update their website)so yes I cant understand why they cannot capture him as well. He definitely must have people who believe in him to not retaliate and be rewarded with that Kings ransom, or maybe they don't have internet access ;) ;) ;)

Your answers show us all that you lack the ability to comprehend writing.  I bit my tongue, when it would be easy to be an asshole.  First off, you don't know the simplest laws in this country.  Secondly, once the laws are explained you can't (or won't understand them.

Good night, son

don't you think the iran problem ultimetly falls in israel's hands... i mean they are the ones threatened with nuclear annihiliation. Iran is not really a threat to america existence like it is to israel.

OMM?

No, we are a little bigger than OMM, but we offer similar services...

In other words, I work for a top 15 international law firm, but our numbers are similar to OMM's total roster.
