basically immune boosters and nootrophics(memory enhancers etc for school).

the ashwagandha is called indian ginseng and reduces cortisol effectively, you can get it at bulk nutrition for dirt cheap.

Food is not a supplement, it's the base.

If you talk about supps, your diet should already be in check. I know what you are aiming at, i know plenty of guys that take more supps than actual food.
Waste of money and opportunity to grow.

DK,just trying to point out how it seems so many people here buy into all the hyped up crap that`s designed mainly to make a company money and are usually useless as a bodybuilding/lifting aid.

Save your cash and eat good 6-8 times a day instead people.

If you shop at GNC or Vitamin Shoppe, that's the stuff you pass by, on your way to the good stuff: NO-Xplode, CELL-TECH, 100% Whey (Gold Standard), etc.

The stuff Medford is mentioning isn't really for bodybuilding or lifting purposes, but for overall health and well-being. Plus, most of that stuff is dirt-cheap anyway. DK is right about food being the base. But, for most people with regular jobs, supplements (particularly protein powders, MRPs, or weight-gainers) are a huge assest.

I have to agree with you. I know a lot of guys & gals who spend over $150 a month on sups that are a waste of money IMO. I'm trying to beat that into my cousins head right now but he never seems to listen (he's 18). Most people I know are surprized to find out I only spend between $20-40 a month on sups (sometimes I splurge & try something new).

no xplode cell tech etc are the supps you dont need. things for improving immunity, general health, and aiding sleep will better benefit you. food is all you need to grow, the other shit is a waste of money save a few key supplements i like.

When we're talking supplements, are we talking vitamins, minerals, fish oil, glucosamine, etc. or just the stuff above and beyond that?

Immunity's fine; sleep isn't a problem, either (especially, since I train in the evenings). Do I "need" those aforementioned supplements to grow? Not particularly! Do they help me grow faster, when my diet is on the money? YES!!

As for the "waste of money" thing, that's hardly the case. All I have to do is be patient and when GNC marks the stuff down (particularly CELL-TECH and various whey proteins, including ON 100% Whey Gold Standard) and clean up then, no problem.

That stuff is expensive (Pycnogenol).  How much do you take, what brand and what price?

Go into any low volume strip-center GNC (not the ones in the mall) and they will lots of expensive anti-oxidants such as Pycnogenol, astaxanthin, proanthocyandins marked down heavily...

mostly because its been sitting on the shelves for quite some time and will expire within 8 months.  Also ask to do a price check, these particular GNC's have morons working in them because they are not qualified to work in the high volume mall stores.  Many times it will have a discontinued price.  Combine the close dated price on top of the discontinued markdown price (if you have a Gold Card, you get a third discount on top of that).  I have 12 of these badboys right here I paid less than $20.  Should last a year or so.

When it came to the Pycnogeol, I took 100 mg post workout.  I'm a big believer in anti-ox

cell tech is shit, as is no xplode etc..

you should spend your money on some good companies like usp labs, alri, avant etc...  they actually research there product and dont make outrageous claims that arent backed by science.

try usp labs p-slin and anabolic pump and i gurantee you'll get much better results.

you should try out ALA if you like antiox's, one of the few fat and water soluble anti oxidents. alcar is also great, to add along with your NAC(great for producing gluathione)

The stuff in GNC expires and they mark it down because most people are too smart to waste their money on it in the first place.

Whey protein, vitamins, and creatine work........most of the rest deigned purely for bodybuilding purposes just plain old suck and do basically jack shit for your physique.

Trust me,I`ve been down that road and food is the most anabolic thing you can ingest other than roids.

i would say because it doesnt offer many real benefits and is really not worth the money. it hasnt got that much research and if your in to botanical medicine you will find tht anti oxidents are really not that special. EVERYTHING has antioxidant potential, spices such as tumeric, teas, vitamins, minerals, grasses etc etc....

only thing ive seen in the lit for pycogenol is for asthma but alpha toco's are better, or quercetin for example.

buying extra anti oxidants without other benefits and in isolated form is a waste of money in my opinion. we really dont know how synergy works and extracting one variable and concentrating it changes the game completely.

plus you run the risk of increasing redox.

yes, exactly.

only supps i would buy are for stress(adaptogens), sleep, mood, and general health. leave the muscle building to food and shakes(which have merit). and maybe high dose leucine.
