Obviously, the amount of drugs a top bodybuilder must use to compete and do well is ILLEGAL. Thus, we have an atmophere where drug use is NOT talked about in an open , honest manner.
The majority of fans seem to prefer and demand big freaky physiques on the pro stage.
The IFBB pro div ( and amatuer) has to keep a set of rules on hand that prohibits steroids and related substances for legal reasons. They know the fans would hate natural Olympians and keep the drug issue in the background whenever possible. I don't blame them for that. I remember well, how the AAU went belly up and the Mr America contest went belly up after a couple major drug testing scandals.
I have promoted shows and can tell you from personal experience that drug testing a contest is a major hassle .
It is my impression and quite ironic that the legal supplement industry likes the "drug use is king" ideals.
It makes it easier to hawk all kinds of exotic compounds that may promote muscle growth.
The bottom line reality is that if you followed the drug rules and laws , it is UNlikely you would ever be able to compete as a viable pro or top national bodybuilder. Natural shows, do well only as loacl events.
What bugs me, is that EVERYONE knows what is going on in bodybuilding when it comes to drug use.
I sincerely wish the legal problems could be ended and we could all engage in honest, open dialogue .
Until then, drug myths will be the norm and the real truth on this issue will be lost and kept locked away out of a need to avpid being the proverbial sacrificial lamb.
