Paintball... or something else?
« on: November 04, 2007, 04:57:56 PM »
Do any of you guys ever go paintballing?

Every couple of months a group of us get together, run out on the fields and shoot each other up with paintballs.

Of course, we're fucking bruised up from that shit for a few days, but it's totally fucking fun, and on top of it all, there's just something about shooting at people without the chance of getting jail time that makes for a great stress reliever.

So, let's say you don't paintball... What other hobbies do you guys have?

Now you just rack up posts on getbig...

So what you're really saying is that you were more fun when you were 10 than you are now... and you actually socialized with other people in real life.

I see.

I do rather enjoy them...

Some people can even get paid to build things with them.

Getting paid to build with Lego bricks

Houston Chronicle:

Jason Poland thought the only job he could get with his recent honors English degree from the University of Houston would be in a bookstore.

Instead, he won a national competition to land one of the rarest jobs in the world: He will be paid $13 an hour to play with Lego bricks.

Poland, 23, will become the newest model builder at Legoland California, a theme park built largely of the tiny plastic bricks that have delighted so many children and that many a mom — including his — have vacuumed out of the carpet.

Only 20 other artists create and maintain the thousands of models in four Legoland theme parks around the world. Poland will be one of six modelers at Legoland California, which features more than 15,000 Lego creations.

"Not every kid takes his Legos to college with him," said his mother, Katherine Albert, an eighth-grade science teacher at Lake Jackson Intermediate School.

"I've just always loved Legos," Poland said. He said he was intrigued by the many ways Lego bricks can be combined to make things.

Poland begged for his first Lego set, a castle, for Christmas when he was only 4 years old. Although the box said the set was for older children, he convinced his mother that he would take care of it.

"I put together the first castle for him," his mother said. "After that, he always did it himself."

    ...

For the final test, each competitor got to pick out up to 10 pounds of Legos and use two hours to build whatever they wanted. The park's model shop had big bins of hundreds of different kinds of Lego bricks, Poland said. He was particularly intrigued by translucent red and orange bricks and thought they would make realistic flames.

"What could be more unexpected than a fire-breathing snowman?" Poland said.

He used every minute. "After I finished, I changed the arms to make them thicker," he said. He added buttons and other last-minute touches.

    ...

Following your passion has its rewards. Legos are from Denmark which has been under assault from Islamic bigots around the world. My grand kids seem to really enjoy building with them.

Now, it's a bit under MY pay scale, but considering you are posting here 24/7... I'd bet any amount of income would do you some good.

Besides, nothing is more childlike than 20 thousand posts on a bodybuilding board... Not including the posts in the Alphabet boards

Perpetual crusted skidmarks?

Paintball is still pretty cool. Bashing on it is extremely metro sexual and means very low test level.

I still have my spyder and my Tippmann. There's loads of places down here.

I know a good interior spot in Tustin tu_.

I'll have to get with you and check it out... Today we just rolled down to Belleflower to the HSP.

They have some good fields and it's usually a good time.

Bluto should start on some HRT to help with his lack of T.

Always... One shot on the knee is swelling up beautifully... the others are just paintball sized.

paintball is the one thing that definitely lets me know my lack of cardio training.  I was winded in under a minute  :P

Don't feel bad... carrying that gun, wearing the gear... it messes with you and it is easy to get winded... I felt good today running around, but I have been trying to do more cardio at the gym... Still, by the time a game or two is done, I sound like a freight train while trying to breathe.

I still play about once a month. My old team and I go out together and run a few games at the local joint for some night ball or whatever is going down. We play airball... we haven't played in the woods in forever. I have been playing pump after years of playing am A level tournaments for years...it just got too expensive. Now I rarely ever shoot more than half a bag after a few hours of play. Makes paintball WAY more affordable and I actually play alot better with a pump gun than I did my timmies. Still is a rush everytime you play that first game...once you get busted and lose that first cherry...it's all fun from then on out.
