So I was with my buddy last summer and he took me over to a farm he used to work on.  The old farmer he worked for took us to a big barn and opened up the door and he had a 55 chevy in it.  The thing was set up for drag racing.  Had a chevy 502 bored .090 over and was putting out 700 + horse.  The guy asks me if I want a ride and i say HELLS YEAH!  So he takes me out in this thing around the country and I thought I was in Driving Ms.Daisy.  We were tooling around these back roads at 20 miles an hour and I was thinking how lame it was and that this isnt what I had in mind.  The guys stops the cars and says, "yep, she should be warmed up by now, hang on"  The old fucker hammered on the gas and pulled the front tires right off the fucking ground!  Its a weird feeling being in a car and looking up, and not at the road.  Anyhow, sorry for the long story, but I just wanted to agree with powerod that the new cars don't compare to the old ones.  Technically, a 55 chevy isn't really classified as a "muscle car"  but this thing was fucking evil!

I FOUnd a 1970 plymouth roadrunner in a backyard in gloucester mass (late 1970's early 80's)
it had 4:56 gears in the read end ,440 with an air-grabber hood scoop,pistol grip shifter i got it for $500 bux
(off the owners parents the kid was in the service at the time)
the thing would barely do over 55 mph (highway driving was outta the question!)
but quarter mile the thing was fucking insane!! (wish i kept it!)

   wheelies look cool in a picture on the wall but they suck. Like I said before fun at first til you smash stuff. Oil pan .Mine  is a Canton it was only 400 bucks but some of em are way up there depending on the type of oil system you have.. . same with headers (good ones). Some tracks have wheelstand contests..usually in the fall, and the crowds love it. It never fails at least one idiot usually crashes his car and trashes it..cracks me up they are so willing to destroy their car for a few bucks and or a trophy. .... Some tracks  might pay good money for that crap but none I been to.

Yeah, I can't imagine the type of front suspension a car would have to have to be able to actually handle pulling a wheelie, especially considering the weight of an engine that has the capability.

 Why? Cause the 4.56's ? I know lots of guys that run gears like that on the street...but highway driving 55 mph depending on the tire heighth would probably be 4000 rpm or so. My chevelle has 4.10's and 55 mph is only about 3300. Nova has 5.14 gears.

ANOTHER ( ) friend of mine had a Camaro SS with a "roller motor built by Smokey Unich" whatever the fuck that meant. all's I know Is it had a massive blower sticking out of the hood. I was driving it down Robert moses causeway and some douchebag in a vette pulls up next to me and starts goosing the throttle. Well it wasn't my car so I looked over to my friend and he said "fuck it, that's what this car is built for"  I slammed it into 3rd and the car got sideways and actually left a stretch at 55 mph and we just LEFT the guy in the vette like his car wasn't running. I was doing well over 100 in no time and the car was still pulling HARD. Fastest car I have ever driven,by far

  I have a pic taken  at the drag  strip in  august I'll have to scan it in my computer later tonight. It is on the garage wall at my dads house. The only pics I have  here were taken in the garage. The car only lifts the front end about a foot the first 50 ft or so. The front suspension has travel limiters and the coil springs are cut very short.Without them the car jerks them up a few feet ..far from a wheelie but it still comes down very hard and tears shit up..It takes power(and e.t.) to lift the nose. Cars that do the big wheelies usually set them up that way  on purpose because they need the extra weight on the rear tires to keep it hooked up....it has more to do with suspension tuning than horsepower. usually the smaller tired cars like in that pic I posted.If you can get it to hook up the car will e.t. better with no wheelie.  If you are going up you are not going fwd.  Car runs 6.20's in the eighth(which would be about 9.70's in the 1/4 ) with aluminum heads that are older than me(seriously). Best 60 ft was 1.32 .MpH is usually 108-109 on the eighth. Should go in the 5's with the new heads next year(I hope).

  p.s. that pic I posted earlier was the TOSTO brothers.If you ever watch PINKS . they were the two rothers that raced each other. The one brother had a new style red camaro..that browm camaro pictured belongs to Vince, their father.
