If you have virgin hair I wouldn't begin w/any permanent dye just in case you wouldn't like it. Plus you need to be ready to deal w/roots.

I'd maybe start w/a color conditioner...(Aveda has some good ones). These will wash out after a few shampoos. If you really like the effect maybe the next step could be a semi-permanent dye which washes out after about 30 shampoos. The thing w/them though, would not be a chunk effect but an all over effect.

I wouldn't want roots or something I would HAVE to keep doing. I would go with something that would fade out like the henna shampoo/conditioners I have used that "brighten" it up but wash out the next few times you use a regular shampoo.

Since you are talking lowlights, you definitely can get semi-permanent chunks. Washes out in about 10-12 shampoos.
