Yes, it is true. All NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) prevent muscle growth. Tylenol, Advil, Aspirin, Ibuprofen, etc. This is because they stop protein synthesis and inflammation, which is what sparks the muscle growth.

It contains phenylephrine - does that prevent muscle gain?

I really appreciate your answer.

Can you address if any of these prevent muscle growth:

Sudafed
EFAs
Enchinea (keeps you from getting sick).

thanks!

I don't think Sudafed prevents muscle growth, I only know that Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen (which are the active ingredients in the drugs i mentioned before) prevent growth.

Echinacea should be ok, it's great for your immune system and will keep you healthy.

EFA's are both good and not so good. Fats like Omega-3 are great for your heart, but it is also anti-inflammatory, which means that it has the same effect as NSAID's. It doesn't prevent muscle growth to the same degree that those drugs do, but it does lessen soreness or DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) from lifting.

Ingesting EFA's is ok, it won't help you gain mass as much as a diet of red meat will, but you shouldn't have any real issues, just a little less soreness that you could be having.

And caffeine does NOT limit muscle growth. Taking a reasonable amount of caffeine prior to a workout gives you better stamina and more energy in the gym.

Don't over do it with the caffeine though, whether it's in pill form or coffee, soda, etc.

It helps burn fat and is a good source of energy.

oh - I didnt know that EFAs and red meat gave you pretty much the same fats.

I eat red meat usually once a day.  Some lean beef cuts, or hamburger.  Does this cover my EFA needs?

I'm sorry, i didn't word that clearly enough. Red meats give you more saturated fats, which are good for muscle growth and PROMOTE soreness. Whereas EFA's like Omega-3 and OMEGA-6 PREVENT soreness.

It would be smart to take in both for optimum muscle growth and overall health.

just cause i like to fk with people and raise their levels.

in this case, i'm actually being serious.  I have bad sinuses and have been battling soreness, so I've been taking OTC stuff for maybe 2 months.  I noticed i'm down a few pounds and haven't been seeing returns in the gym.  of course, diet and rest and training have all suffered thanks to sinuses :(

I can feel you on that one, your illnesses, paired with the medicines you have been taking are really putting a halt on your gains.

Aspirin®, or acetylsalicylic acid (IPA: /əˌsɛtɨlsælɨˌsɪlɨk ˈæsɨd/), (acetosal) is a salicylate drug often used as an analgesic (to relieve minor aches and pains), antipyretic (to reduce fever), and as an anti-inflammatory. It also has an antiplatelet ("blood-thinning") effect and is used in long-term, low doses to prevent heart attacks and blood clot formation in people at high risk for developing blood clots.[1]

Aspirin was the first-discovered member of the class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs),

I was wrong about the contents, but the effects are the same. Aspirin= no muscle growth.
