13 years for me. Smoking was like getting on express train, but shit, if you wanted local stops. Easiest habit in the world to pick up. I smoked everywhere but the shower, cause I couldn't keep the cig. dry.
This is what I did: I did not tell anyone I was quitting. I didn't wait till I was on vacation, I did it while I was at work. (think about it, we are miserable sometimes at work anyway.) I did it day, by day.
After the first 72 hours, the physical craving is gone. After that its the psychological cravings. You need to figure out your "smoking cues".
I am not saying you need to stop any activities that you are doing, but you need to be aware of what triggers your smoking.
I started smoking cigs. were 75 cents a pack, and when I stopped they were $2.60. You will notice that you get less sore throats, etc...but the first few days will be like a cold.
