How do you find competing in powerlifting as opposed to bodybuilding? What I mean is, is there the same amount of politics as bodybuilding, or is pretty much shut up and lift?
Excellent question.
Not the same level of politics by any means, BBing has A TON of bullshit behind the scenes. powerlifters might get a friendly white light every now and then but there isn't much to get complicated because it's all out in the open for everyone to see. there are no score cards, just 3 judges and the lifts are usually obviously good or bad. still lots of bad calls happen, more and more these days. the half squat is quickly sweeping the nation, mainly due to these crazy suits they use today. in a certian suit you simply cannot get low enough because they are so tight, i don't like half reps, i was taught to squat until your body stops and then press up. they never told us to stop at a certian point, let your bodys flexibility judge how deep you go.
i have also been a judge for USAPL, WABDL and APA. i have been approached by chairmen in certian feds to be "open" in my judging for certian lifters, mainly guys with sponsers...that's all i can really say.
i will say that powerlifters are much more helpful and they don't talk too much shit, most of them just shut up and lift. most of the guys will help you in any way possible, even if you are about to make an attempt that could beat them in that event, they still help. i noticed BBers will bullshit you alot about carbing up and pre stage prep, they want you to mess up. they play mind games that are very childish but it's been like that since the beginning.
