maybe because in 50 years no one will remember your name or the fact you even existed, so your trivial conundrum over changing your life in one way or another is easily solved by making the decision that benefits you and you only.  managing your life around another's expectations is a catastrophic error to your happiness, eventually the only determining factor in life.
