A CHAMPION bodybuilder is supporting the Herculean efforts of a woman’s battle with cancer.
Britain’s James “Flex” Lewis is throwing his weight behind a charity night organised by Barrow gym owner Stan Dewhurst, to highlight the cancer battle of Mr Dewhurst’s wife.
Flex Lewis is returning from America to hold a seminar at Flexappeal, in Hartington Street, next month.
The event is being held to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Nicola Dewhurst is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Mr Dewhurst explained: “We decided to hold a charity event for Cancer Research to give something back. We are hoping to raise lots of money on the night and have some great prizes.”
Mrs Dewhurst is currently being treated in the Oncology Unit at Furness General Hospital and at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
During the seminar, Flex Lewis will be baring his biceps and parading his pecs as well as offering tips on how to follow in his muscular footsteps.
As well as holding the UKBFF British Overall champion title for 2007, Flex Lewis was also awarded the Mr Wales title in 2006.
The Welshman, who currently trains in the United States, is a friend of Flexappeal bodybuilder Joe Walker.
He will be holding a number of seminars during this visit to the UK, but the Barrow event is the only seminar to be held in Cumbria.
Mr Dewhurst added: “Some people feel a bit intimidated by bodybuilding shows, but this is a guy telling us about bodybuilding, not a show.
“People who don’t know a lot about bodybuilding could come along on the night and learn a bit about it.”
Other famous names from the world of bodybuilding will also be in the audience, including current over-50s Mr Universe, Bernie Cooper, from Dalton, and the national amateur champion, John Bridge. There will also be a raffle and an auction on the night, including official merchandize donated by Flex Lewis.
The seminar is set to take place at 6pm on Wednesday December 5 and tickets are available at the door for £5.
