Changes in 2008 NPC Fitness & Figure
« on: November 28, 2007, 11:07:54 AM »
There are a number of changes that came out of NPC Nationals. I've posted all of them at:
http://www.hardbody.com/news/2007/11/28/changes-in-the-npc-fitness-figure-and-lots-of-em/

Fitness & Figure competitors should be stoked at the added opportunities. The change in the height classes is also a good move.

Glad to see Jr's are both having Pro Cards added!
But - Net - 2 less Fitness Pro Cards - Thats a shame.

And Isaac...thanks for changing your avatar.  Much more pleasant to look at now ;)

Yes and no.

While I would love to see more fitness pros, there have to be more women competing at the national level.  I'm not saying we need to see the 100-competitor days again, but 50-60 would be perfect.

I'm just a fan trying to get my money's worth.  Those tickets were damn expensive!

Hey, it looks to me like there is actually MORE fitness pro cards now.... there never used to be ANY fitness pro cards given at either of the Jr. shows, and now it looks like 1 (overall) at Jr. USA and 3 (each height class) at Jr. Nationals.  I think that is a great step!  Now, a better step of course would be more fitness competitors    :-\

Yeah they have got rid of one big show. They are now calling the Team Universe Fitness show, the NPC Fitness Nationals.

Simply the number of competitors. The number of fitness competitors doing shows in the pro ranks seemed to be up overall, the numbers in fitness are still mediocre at best. This past weekend at the Rocky Mountain/Carol Semple Classic there were only two fitness competitors - one short/one tall. I tell women if you can put together a routine, do it. Your physique is 50% of the total score. Fitness is the most exciting competition but also the most taxing on the women.

I'm thinkin hard about entering the Max Muscle Naturals in March.  Simply because I cannot wait til June to be back in the spotlight.... can anyone tell me is there a difference in "naturals" and "juniors"? Also, what makes the juniors different from regular NPC

If you want to be in the spotlight, enter the NPC IRONMAN in Feb. The winner gets a photoshoot and published in IRONMAN Magazine. Juniors are a National level show, where you have the opportunity to turn pro. The "junior" shows are typically a show for first timers or the less seasoned competitors. In Figure/Fitness this isn't necessarily the case any longer. In Bodybuilding I would say it holds true. Lonnie Teper's Jr. Cal in June is also a great show to get exposure and test the waters.

Remember just because someone (not saying you) is nationally qualified doesn't mean they should skip other shows or automatically jump into a national show.

Ughhhhh figure is sooo damn boring.  I can watch it for 10 min before I want to slit my wrists!!!!! It might be more entertaining if they all did little figure posing routines or something...but then it would never end.

Hi Josephine,

Is this Josephine Dalton? I remember you from the FAP shows.  Anway I just wanted to post to you about the Max Muscle Naturals, at that show as well as the Pacific USA Naturals they reward a softer look.  I remember you having a great body, gorgeous face, and also a bit of a softer look, I think you would do great in that show and I think it would be a great way for you to experiment with the NPC if you have not already.  You can start to get yourself familiar with the format a bit by going to the IronMan figure but I would not recommend jumping into that show.  Please feel free to email me personally any questions you have about it or you can also join my free phone coaching teleconference I have every month it helps answer questions about competing in figure.  I also have a figure workshop in January and February specifically for NPC athletes.  Anway just wanted to reach out and say hey, and swing by my site for more help getting involved with the NPC.

I am excited to see pro cards being added at the jr shows for fitness, but im definately bummed that Team U will be the official nationals for fitness. Team U is always in NewYork (one of the more expensive cities to compete in, if u ask me)...I liked the fact that the Nationals at least rotated on 3 different cities.
O well, u take whatcha get.

All the more reason to do the IRONMAN - gorgeous face and body in front of all the top photographers. Why would u recommend someone not do that show?

Her post stated she wanted to do the Max Muscle Naturals, my post is not anti IronMan. If she wants to do a show in March, I am suggesting she go and see the IronMan to get an idea of how the shows  look. Josephine (if it is the same person that I know) is coming from a different organization and would benefit from watching a high calibur quality show such as the IronMan.  Based on your post you are suggesting that everyone with a hot face and body should jump in that show. I like to have people a little more prepared than that. Hot face and body means nothing if the tan, posing, suits and other factors are off. That is why someone should watch a show before jumping in, I don't care how great they think they look they still need to watch a show first. But that is my opinion.

Not at all what I'm saying. Only basing my recommendation off from her post. I don't know her and of course there is more to a figure show than a hot face.

She posted:

I don't know her and no where did I gain info that she had competed in another org other than NPC, hence my suggestion. Want to be in the "spotlight" compete in a show where you will, that's all.

Yeah, I see what you mean, focus for you was on "in the spotlight" that is really to be determined to what extent she wants to be in the spotlight and what she meant by that, compared to what a photographers idea of "in the spotlight" is, and if she is ready. I personally don't want to be in the spotlight if I am not prepared, so really neither one of us have enough information to recommend do or do not do a show. Hell, she could go and steal the whole show, who knows.  She is a hottie for sure, competition wise, as stated, that is a different story.  Preparation needs to be done.

Hi Nancy

Yes, I'm that Josephine Dalton. I'm glad to see you remembered me.  I also recalled you were the first person (of many) who commented that I have outstanding symmetry. Owner of OxygenFit made the same comment during Fitness Hollywood last month, and it reminded me of you. So, it's coincidental that you replied to me here.  And thank you for making me feel pretty tonight. We girls need to compliment each other more often ! !

I was planning on being at the Ironman this year, but to compete in the Fittest Couple competition. Unfortunately, I broke up with the man last week (hehe). But I saw the show last year. NPC seems rather intimidating being there are requirements and that having one of those bling bling thousand dollar suits makes an actual difference.  Also, I have some issues I have to consider. One being I have two rotator cuff injuries which makes it extremely hard to get a decent back or deltoid workout. The second one is that I'm hypoglycemic and going too low in carbs can be dangerous for me. So,  the "dabble" in  NPC would only be temporary just to keep me busy and gain more exposure. I've done very well in Bikini America & Model World Tour, but they only get me so much.

Anyways, I'll be testing out a new program which will incorporate more Gaspari Sports Nutrition products than what I used to prep for Bikini & Model America...to see just how much muscle I can possibly put on in a higher rep, moderate weight range that won't kill my shoulders.

Can't wait to be back on stage and in the spotlight.  I will definitely be checking out your site. And thank you for he words of encouragement... Nancy and everyone
