A pro with that amount of $$$?

You can probably afford to compete 2x and pay to keep the lights turned on!

Single, no kids.

You can choose to live anywhere, but feel that being in southern California or Las Vegas would be best for your career.

Is this reported pre-tax income?
Does this figure include the unreported "sponsorship incentives" for private sessions with elderly rich males?  ;D

In SoCal, that might pay the rent.  In many other areas of the country you could live very well.

consider the following:

$$ for drugs = 6k/yr (very conservative)
$$ for food = 10k/yr more than avg. person
$$ for supplements (vitamins, protein and other legal stuff = 5k/yr
$$ for tanning = 4k/yr

so you're down to 100k/yr

NOW

No health insurance = 20k/yr + much more later down the road
No 401k = 7k/yr (just company match and tax benefit; forget about massive interest accumulated over the course of your career)

73k/yr

with cost of living in southern california, 73k is=

43k in atlanta, GA and houston and austin, tx
60k in providence, RI

for a job with no sustainability...my recommendation would be to go back to school

You forgot that they are self-employed...  there is no employer to kick in that portion of the fica payroll tax.  So take another 7.5% off the top.  ;D
