Victoria Secret Models and the changing concept beauty

I'm watching the Victoria Secret Fashion show, and while yes the girls are pretty, they are quite skinny. Now, I remember back in the early 90's the Victoria Secret models ( in the catalog) were more curvaceous, these models were Frederique, and a another (she had green- cat eyes).

I think that these current women represent a warped sense of beauty, in the eyes of women, whereas Frederique, were more of a men's ideal.

What do think?

I agree 100%. A rib cage showing and "the anorexic look" is just a turn off.

Gee, the only comments were dudes (I agree with ya'll), but no women have commented on how these supposed "beauties" are shoved down our throats, but that is not what true women should ever look like.

I don't think she looks bad.  Maybe it's because she's so gorgeous....she's pretty thin but still looks healthy to me.

Yes, the VS models like Tyra Banks were much more pleasing to the eye. She was much fuller and curvy and sexier to look out.

why don't women demand that runway models look like "real women". Or should it be that the men demand that. Because I tell you what, any woman that I have seen in her Vickies thong, had more booty than the girls that were parading around the runway.

Sorry to tell you folks... it's a certain powerful segment of the American population sees these women as beautiful because skinniness depicts physical weakness, helplessness, vulnerability, defenselessness and a young object to control & conquer. Unfortunately, its the white & asian males of our society that like this look. They value power and control of women. 

Sorry, not trying to sound racist; I am white and asian. I know my two cultures. The only time I seem to ever attract white men was when I dropped to a size 2 after taking a generic ECA stack in the late 90s.  I mean my God, how often do you hear of african american women with anorexia or bulimia? It's definitely a cultural thing.

The song "Baby Got Back" is the ethnic anthem celebrating woman curves.  Sometimes I'm glad I am not full white because I'd probablly be pressured to starve myself down to a size 2 again.

Someone who also did a huge number on an entire generation or two of women was Cosmo Editor Helen Gurley Brown imo. Has anyone seen a picture of that woman? She was a toothpick, ...and lived by the adage "You could never be too rich or too thin". I'll agree with the too rich part, ...but you most definitely can be too thin. She was like a walking, talking, breathing skeleton.

Years ago Rosie O'Donnell (before she was forced out-of-the-closet) was talking about a recent trip she had made down to Mexico with her girlfriend who was "Blonde, blue-eyed, and gorgeous". She was blown away because all the men kept hitting on her, and ignoring her girlfriend. This was extremely unusual for them, because normally they'd be hitting on the girlfriend and ignoring Rosie. So finally Rosie asked one of the guys why he was more attracted to her as opposed to her girlfriend. His response... "It's like a fine meal... When you eat a fine meal, ...the meat is for the man, ...but the bones ...they're for the dogs."

I believe someone in the industry once said :"more curves? models are coat hangers for our clothes". Yes, curves are prettier and sexier, that's what 95% of the world agrees on. The fashion industry has, for good and mostly for bad, a completely different set of rules. The argument that curves are sexier has no merit in their paradigm because that's not what it's about.

I strongly disagree with the current trend in fashion, it's unhealthy and increases the distortion of the reference point of the 'normal woman'. The fashion industry is pretty inbred, change has to come from within, unless legislation can force changes.

Different women look good at different "weight classes".
Though that kiddy-fiddler look(no hips, no ass, ribs all over) has to go.
Nearly all of my buddies like the HelloKitty-skeletons... and I'm happy because that means more curvy goodies for me to hunt

How about a Parker Line of Lingerie  in which the models would look like they come out of Smooth or XXL (Hip Hop Magazine), or everyday beautiful women (you know the women you might see at Starbucks once in a while).  "Sensuous women with curves"...that's the tag line.
