it's fucckin' sad man, i was born in Chicago and lived 90 miles straight south of there for 10 years and went there at least once a month as a kid and it's depressing how much it's changed, you go to Lake Michigan or Navy Pier and it's all blacks and mexicans.

There are fewer blacks here in Chicago now than there were in the 80's. There has been a massive white influx into the city and a black outflux into the suburbs of Chicago. A few of the areas that were straight up ghettos in the 80's (Wicker Park, area around the remnants of Cabrini Green) now are trendy neighborhoods because of all the white people moving in.

I was there in the summer and it wasn't that bad....no doubt worse than 20 years ago, but still one of the best cities around...

If you went to areas like Wicker Park/Bucktown in the 1980's, it was shooting galleries and abandoned lots. It was trendy enough in the early 2000's for MTV to film a Real World there. Most of the housing projects have been destroyed or are in the process of demolition. Robert Taylor Homes are completely wiped out. Cabrini is almost entirely boarded up or demolished, and now condos are all over the place down there. There's a whole foods, trader joes, and a banana republic where before it was a ghetto. Uptown now has a corner with a Starbucks, Border's, and a designer sushi bar. Prior to this it was empty lots, barred-window liquor stores, and dollar stores (though the dollar stores are still there). The South and West Loop, which used to be pretty ugly, are coddling yuppies with Whole Foods stores.

Where the hell were you guys hanging out at 20 years ago? Even the homicide rate here, while still relatively high comapred to most larger cities, is at basically a 30 year low. 15 years ago you couldn't get a cab to take you in certain parts of the city that are $1200/month for a 1-bedroom rent districts now.

I'm speaking in generalities, I was 6 years old 20 years ago. Crime is going down all over the US. As an example, crime in NY is also very low compared with the 80's and 90's and is considerably more diverse. There's not always a correlation.

August for a friends wedding. I go about 4 or 5 times a year for work also but that's in Addison (burbs) so I don't get to hang out down town too much; maybe one night a trip...

California weather and scenery is amazing, but it has its negatives.

Number one, it's a fake state with fake people. Those who have visited know what I'm talking about. Those of you that live there and don't? You're probably one of the people I'm talking about.

Me personally, I can't tolerate how lazy people are on the west coast. Again this is a generalization, there are hardworking people there, but east coast people run circles around them.
