Henderson..
« on: December 07, 2007, 11:21:34 AM »
anyone else think it's crap that Hendo comes into the UFC and his first fight is a title match (which he loses) then his second match is ANOTHER title match....

seems unfair

he WAS the last pride light heavy champ and it was billed as a unification fight....

you can't have a title unification fight unless you have both champs !

I can agree with that but you also have to take into account that  hendo's locked into a multi fight contract, and he's gonna get paid a set amount for each and every fight until that contract expires so it's in  zuffa's best interest to put these guys in positions to make them the most money (with ppvs)

just seems unfair for fighters that have fought their way to the top in the UFC and don't get shots at the big show

thats where the ufc is hurting itself. the fights are not as meaningfull as they are when a fighter builds his way up and earns it.

What do you mean by another title match? Who is he fighting next and when?

the dude is on top of the mma world. nobody that has watched him in pride would say he doesn't deserve every oppurtunity for a belt he is given. besides the guy has 2 belts from pride right now.

I understand what you are saying but you have to take into consideration the fact that he was Pride's champion at both weight classes. If the UFC was looking to make undisputed champs this is a good way of going about it. There is no doubt that Pride and the UFC were considered the "big leagues" when it comes to MMA. They both had the best fighters in the world comparatively speaking vs other MMA organization. So to discount Henderson's past accomplishments would be crazy from a big picture perspective. Here is another way of looking at it, you have different organizations in boxing and when the champ of one organization fight the champ from another he does not have to work his way up the rankings in another organization. Besides who else currently at 185 in the UFC would deserve a shot more then Henderson? Current Pride Champ (even though pride is no more), recently took LHW (rampage) to a 5 round decision.

Lets see, he is the last middleweight champion of Pride, he lost a decision to Rampage (whilst Chuck got KTFO).  There is no one who is a credible threat to Anderson in the MW (especially with Zuffa's refusal to sign Lindland, Kang, and with Filho in the WEC).  Who else is Anderson supposed to fight that would sell seats and PPVs?

I still think that the majority of PPV buyers don't know much about Pride. I could be wrong though.

I get what your trying to get AT but naw man.

Hendo is a proven fighter, a great one at that....why should he waste his time smashing through MW division? Who does he need to beat to be earning that title shot?

He did lose to Rampage but it was close and he had his moments....no shame in losing to Rampage who in self is a bad ass, plus father time can be catching up to Hendo so why not just give him Silva NOW!
