The image — which shows a reclining Beckham bronzed and bare-chested — kicks off a new three-year ad campaign by the Italian designer featuring the soccer superstar.

It is understood the deal will net Beckham over $46 million.

The none-too-subtle ad has attracted its share of ridicule among media outlets speculating that Beckham's 'package' may have been enhanced.

When asked if the image had been touched up to give Beckham a bit more 'bang for his bulge', a spokesperson answered: "No comment".

It seems Giorgio Armani has been sizing up the LA Galaxy star for some time.

"David is truly a modern day icon in that his fame extends well beyond the realm of soccer," he said.

"He is considered as one of the world's most talented soccer players and a former captain of his national team, but his image has come to stand for more than this.

"He represents a notion of modern masculinity as a sports hero, husband and father. He is also a man with a great sense of style."

The ad comes as Beckham has been named with actress Jessica Biel as the world's "cleanest" celebrities in a new web poll.

The poll, conducted by health and detox website SoCal Cleanse, also named Amy Winehouse and Tommy Lee as the "dirtiest" stars.

for 46 million, I too would do those ads regardless of the fact I think it looks fruity.  he isn't doing it to be gay or for some sort of satisfaction besides money, so technically it isn't gay, it just looks gay.
