Mircowaving Eggs?!
« on: December 14, 2007, 07:37:34 PM »
I have no idea if there is anything particularly unhealthy about this procedure but I find it to be quick and efficient; fast and ready to eat.

Does anyone else microwave their eggs?

Has anyone read anything negative about it?

I've never got the hang of it.  They explode all over and stick to whatever I'm cooking them in.  Same with oatmeal.  Makes a mess  :-[

Got to cook it in 45 sec to 1 min intervals!

I microwave mine as well. It's quick, easy and dont taste bad at all. Plus it has to be alot better then frying them. Sometimes i'll mix in alittle brown rice and redhot with them.

I knew this subject would come up sooner or later...

Yeah, I do all the time. Use a glass container and nuke in intervals or 1 min. Stir them up or like Princess said, they explode!! Usually after three minutes, they are done depending on the power of your nuke and how you like 'em. The key is the 1 min. intervals though or BOOM!

Princess, oatmeal is the easiest in the micro girl...just a minute and voila!?!?  :-\

i am sure that it destroys some of the nutrients in the egg...but so does cooking them in a pan, and so does breaking the yolk...    the amount of fat/protein/cholestrol/arachidonic acid/overall calories in the egg is probably going to be completely untouched no matter how you eat it though. ....i have been microwaving eggs since before i even started lifting weights. the best way is to beat the eggswith soem cayenne pepper, chili powder, salt, and granulated garlic and then pour the mixture onto a paper plate in the microwave....microwave untill the whole thing is almost cooked, the pour on some hot sauce(preferably tapatio saucce) and stir it up, then nuke it for the rest of the time.....very good taste

I've got some microwave boiler thing that does them 4 at a time with a metal lining of some sort too so they are just boiled i guess. I used to have a different one by them that did them out of the shell and it was just too messy with the boiler i can have no mess egg sandwiches or just eat boiled eggs very easily just peel the shell and down the drain you can even cool them off in the cooker. This is the product http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=norid+ware+egg+boiler&btnG=Google+Search
I think they have them at wal-mart or target in the microwave aisle. I really like mine.

As far as oatmeal goes, I just use the hot water from our Bunn coffee maker at work (the spout you make tea from). It's plenty hot enough. I just pour that over my oatmeal and mix it up for a minute or so. Works great and no mess.

Eggs? Last time I tried eggs in a micro they looked like a sponge when they came out. I'll have to try the 1 minute intervals sometime. I usually just drop a couple eggs raw in a glass of milk with some chocolate syrup and mix well. Not bad at all.

Microwaving anything is a bad idea. Just toss your microwave out.

Drink all eggs raw.
